Emotions often run high in sports, and the NBA is no exception. While the regular season and playoffs are still a ways off, even preseason games can generate the intensity and drama typically reserved for postseason battles. Tempers flare not just among players, coaches, or team staff, but sometimes even among passionate fans.

On Tuesday night, the Miami Heat’s preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs was a perfect example of how heated things can get—even off the court.

The Miami Heat, hosting the Spurs at the Kaseya Center, secured their second preseason victory with a commanding performance. The win energized the home crowd, but the post-game atmosphere took an unexpected turn when a fight erupted in the stands, grabbing the attention of everyone in the arena, including Heat players.

Tyler Herro, the Heat’s standout point guard, was in the middle of a post-game interview when the commotion in the stands became impossible to ignore. Mid-answer, Herro suddenly paused, visibly distracted by the altercation unfolding in the crowd. “I’m sorry, I’m distracted by a fight up there. This is crazy,” Herro said with a chuckle, glancing up to track the action happening off-camera.

The reporter, momentarily caught off guard, responded lightheartedly, “Well, hopefully that breaks up soon,” trying to steer the interview back on track. But Herro, clearly entertained, couldn’t keep his focus on the conversation. He smiled and watched the scuffle play out, even breaking into laughter as the situation escalated. It was enough of a distraction that the interview had to be cut short. As Herro walked away from the scene, he smiled at someone off-camera and remarked, “This is crazy.”

Fan altercations are nothing new in sports, but the fact that this happened during a preseason game—typically far more relaxed than the regular season or playoffs—surprised many.

Even though the NBA season is just getting started, the fans seemed to be in midseason form when it came to stirring up drama in the stands.

The incident serves as a reminder of the passion and intensity that NBA fans bring to the game, regardless of whether it’s preseason or a championship matchup.

For Herro and others in attendance, the spontaneous brawl in the crowd was an unexpected sideshow, adding a layer of unpredictability to what was otherwise a routine night in the preseason.
