NASCAR star Bubba Wallace is keeping his political opinions to himself as the 2024 Presidential election approaches.

This comes after he publicly criticized former President Donald Trump in 2020. The upcoming election, set for Nov. 5, will see former President and Republican nominee go head-to-head with current Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris, with polls too close to predict a clear winner.

Back in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and heightened racial tensions following George Floyd’s murder, Wallace openly expressed his disapproval of then-President Trump on social media. Their disagreement escalated when Trump labeled the discovery of a noose in Wallace’s NASCAR garage as a “hoax”, leading to the sport’s only black Cup Series driver accusing the President of promoting hate.

However, as the next Presidential election looms, Wallace is choosing to stay out of the political fray. “Investing my time into that seems like a waste of time,” Wallace shared with Fox News Digital. “I was definitely more vocal then because our sport was in desperate need of change.”

Since those turbulent times, Wallace has joined NBA icon Michael Jordan’s NASCAR Cup Series team, 23XI Racing. He also tied the knot with Amanda Carter, and they welcomed their first child, Becks Hayden Wallace, on Sept. 29.

Wallace attributes his non-political stance this year to becoming a father. “My beliefs stand strong in just being good humans to other people is the best way to go about life,” he stated. “No matter what side you’re on, no matter what color you are, at the end of the day we’re in this world together and we have to make it work together. And I think I’ve said that from day one and that hasn’t changed and nor will it change.”

Despite failing to qualify for the Cup Series playoffs in 2024 after doing so last season, Wallace has retained the support of team co-owner Jordan and Joe Gibbs Racing star Denny Hamlin, who also owns a stake in the operation. Last month, Wallace was rewarded with a new contract.

The 31-year-old signed a multi-year deal and could still contribute to teammate Tyler Reddick’s playoff bid. Reddick, the 2024 Cup Series regular-season champion, is currently third in the standings, trailing Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson, and is in the Round of 8.

The Round of 8 features three races in Las Vegas for the South Point 400, Florida for the Nascar Cup Series Race At Homestead-Miami, and Virginia for the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville. After this round, four drivers will be eliminated and the remaining four will compete in the season finale on Nov. 10 at Phoenix Raceway, which will host the Championship race.

Reddick stated: “We need to have some solid races and get back to what we’ve been doing all year,” “Everyone’s really motivated to get back (to Las Vegas) because it’s a really huge opportunity to be able to win and lock ourselves into Phoenix (for the Championship 4).”

He added: “From an outside perspective, this is the best we’ve been as a team thus far,” “We have a great shot this year and we’re looking to capitalize on that and get it done.”
