Michael Jordan once gifted a red Ferrari to his most beloved teammate in Scottie Pippen after he was given custom-made earrings from the latter.

Jordan and Pippen spent nine-and-a-half years together as teammates with the Chicago Bulls, going on to win six NBA championships together and being recognized as the most successful duo in NBA history.

Towards their latter years, they had become close-friends with one another away from the floor as well as on it, with Jordan handing Pippen an extremely extravagant gift.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello is said to now be valued at an incredible $331,000, had been one of Jordan’s favorite vehicles, which he had collected in the latter years of his career.

While Pippen had been an admirer of the vehicle himself, he had been on significantly less money than Jordan – notoriously being one of the more underpaid players in NBA history – and hadn’t had been reckless with his spending habits like his legendary teammate.

After they had won their fifth championship together and prior to winning their sixth, Jordan was taken aback by the gift that Pippen had got him for Christmas, before changing his mind and handing him his Ferrari.

A 2010 ESPN article read: “For the Christmas of ’97, Pippen had an earring made for Jordan – a diamond-encrusted replica of the NBA championship trophy. Jordan, who had planned to give Pippen a box of cigars, reconsidered and instead gave him his red Ferrari, which Pippen had long admired. ‘He wanted it so bad,’ said Jordan. ‘It wasn’t a double locker, but it would do.’”

While Jordan had been one of the more higher-paid players back in his prime, he has made an extremely large proportion of his money away from the floor – building his Jordan empire to becoming one of the biggest sporting brands in the industry.

Jordan now has a reported net worth of around $3 billion, recently being the primary owner of the Charlotte Hornets before selling the franchise last year. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer has long been generous with his money, donating a large amount of money after the September 11 terrorist attacks, while also giving hundreds of thousands to a variety of charities over the years.

Jordan and Pippen have, unfortunately, had a strained relationship in recent years with Pippen’s ex-wife, Larsa, dating Jordan’s son, Marcus for two years. The two Bulls legends have also had fall-outs over the years that had stemmed from Netflix’ ‘The Last Dance’ documentary.
