On Tuesday, wildfires in Los Angeles wreaked havoc across Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, and Sylmar, prompting widespread evacuations and leaving communities on edge. Among those affected were the families of Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick and Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who shared heartfelt messages during their respective postgame press conferences.

JJ Redick: “My Family Has Been Evacuated”

Before the Lakers faced the Dallas Mavericks, Redick addressed the media, revealing that his family and extended relatives had been forced to evacuate their home in Pacific Palisades.

“I want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in Palisades right now,” Redick began. “It’s where I live. My family, my wife’s family, and my wife’s twin sister—they’ve all evacuated. I know there are a lot of people freaking out right now, including my family.”

Redick expressed deep concern over the strong winds forecasted for the evening, which threatened to worsen the situation.

“With the winds coming tonight, I know a lot of people are scared,” he said. “I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and I hope everybody stays safe.”

Despite the emotional toll of the crisis, Redick coached the Lakers through a hard-fought game, though they ultimately lost to the Dallas Mavericks.

Steve Kerr: “It’s Terrifying”

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr also addressed the devastating fires after his team’s loss to the Miami Heat. He revealed that his mother, who also lives in Pacific Palisades, had to evacuate her home.

“I want to send my thoughts and condolences to everybody in Los Angeles dealing with the fires,” Kerr said. “My mom lives in Pacific Palisades. She had to evacuate.”

Kerr also shared that the family of Golden State video coordinator Everett Dayton had suffered a heartbreaking loss.

“Everett Dayton, on our staff, grew up in Pacific Palisades,” Kerr explained. “From what I gather, his family home is lost. Everything I’m seeing and reading is just terrifying. I just want to send thoughts to everyone who is going through the devastation of the fire.”

Fires Ravage Southern California

The wildfires, fueled by gusts reaching up to 99 mph, tore through multiple neighborhoods, leaving a trail of destruction. Entire communities were displaced as first responders worked tirelessly to combat the flames.

Pacific Palisades, a coastal community known for its scenic views and affluent residents, was among the hardest hit. Many families, including those of high-profile figures like Redick and Kerr, faced the dual challenges of evacuation and uncertainty about the future of their homes.

Communities Rally Amid Crisis

As Los Angeles grapples with the devastating impact of the fires, messages of solidarity and support from prominent figures like Redick and Kerr underscore the gravity of the situation.

Both coaches used their platforms to call attention to the crisis, offering not just personal anecdotes but heartfelt encouragement for those affected.

While the flames continue to threaten homes and lives, the resilience of the community shines through as neighbors, officials, and public figures rally to support one another during this challenging time.
