Kristin Cavallari is opening up about the complexities of co-parenting with her ex-husband, Jay Cutler, describing the experience as “the ultimate test in life.”
The Hills alum shared her thoughts in a new profile for Interview Magazine published Wednesday, offering rare insight into her dynamic with the former NFL quarterback as they raise their three children together. Though Cavallari, 38, did not go into further details about their current arrangement, her past comments suggest that their relationship remains tense.
A History of Public Tension
Cavallari’s latest remarks come months after she made scathing comments about Cutler, 41, on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast in December 2024. During the interview, the reality star didn’t hold back, labeling her ex a “pathological liar” and criticizing his lack of consistency as a co-parent.
Reflecting on their turbulent history, she admitted, “[It’s] really hard. It has not been easy, to say the least.”
She also recalled a rare moment of civility between them at one of their children’s basketball games.
“We sat together at a basketball game earlier in the year, and I was like, ‘Holy f–k, this is the best thing that’s ever happened. Jesus Christ, we made it. We can sit next to each other,’” Cavallari revealed. “And we haven’t sat together since, so I don’t f–king know. What the f–k?”
While some divorced couples are able to spend holidays together as a family unit for the sake of their children, Cavallari made it clear that she and Cutler are not on that path.
“It bums me out sometimes,” she admitted.
Cavallari, whose parents also divorced, shared that she never wanted to experience the same fate.
“Coming from divorced parents, the last thing I ever wanted was a divorce,” she confessed. “I won’t lie to you. That still will creep up once in a while … It just sucks that we’re not together as a family.”

Moving On From the Past
Cavallari and Cutler were together for a decade before announcing their separation in 2020. Their divorce was finalized two years later, but co-parenting their three children—Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and Saylor, 9—has remained a work in progress.
Since their split, Cavallari has been linked to several high-profile men, including comedian Jeff Dye and country singer Morgan Wallen. Most recently, she dated TikTok star Mark Estes, though the two broke up in September 2024.
By December, she hinted at a new relationship during her Dumb Blonde podcast appearance, teasing, “I have someone else in my life.” She refused to reveal his identity but cryptically added, “I’m a f–king WAG through and through,” suggesting she was dating an athlete.
Meanwhile, Cutler moved on with Samantha Robertson, going public with their relationship in 2023. The couple later became engaged in 2024.

A Work in Progress
While Cavallari and Cutler may not have the ideal co-parenting relationship, she continues to be candid about their struggles. Despite the ups and downs, she remains focused on their children’s well-being, even as she navigates the emotional challenges of raising them separately.
Though she still grapples with the reality of divorce, Cavallari seems to be finding her own path forward—one that doesn’t include Cutler, but still revolves around their shared role as parents.
