Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas has commended Jason Kelce for “standing up for his family” after he threw a fan’s phone after they used a homophobic slur to describe the star’s brother, Travis Kelce.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center was involved in an ugly exchange outside Beaver Stadium in Pennsylvania, with clips of the incident having since gone viral on social media. One fan shouted in the direction of the 36-year-old, using discriminatory language in relation to Jason’s younger sibling and his girlfriend Taylor Swift.
It was clear that the comments had left the retired football icon disgruntled as he proceeded to throw the individual’s phone onto the floor. In the video, the fan appears to yell: “Hey, Kelce, how does it feel your brother’s a f—— dating Taylor Swift?”, with the elder Kelce brother retaliating by appearing to throw the fan’s phone onto the concrete floor before picking it up and walking off, saying: “Who’s the f—— now?”

Now, Kansas City mayor Lucas had waded into the row over the incident as he praised Kelce for his reaction to the homophobic comments towards his brother. Taking to Twitter/X, he asserted: “I shouldn’t say, but whatever. I appreciate Jason Kelce standing up for his family.”
The Daily Mail later claimed that the younger Kelce sibling and beau Swift were left “shocked” by the news of the incident as an insider purported that they condemned the use of discriminatory language. They said: “Taylor and Travis were both really shocked by this considering Jason is one of the nicest guys in the world.
“It really became clear how much he loves and respects Taylor,” they continued. “Travis means the world to him. The use of the word is not okay with him nor anyone. This fan crossed the line. Jason will never stand for anyone insulting his family and he views Taylor as family now.”

The politician’s words went down well with fans on the social media site too, with one commenter praising the one-time Super Bowl victor for standing up for a family member. They said: “It’s great to see Jason Kelce prioritizing his family’s support—definitely commendable.
Meanwhile, a second person said: “Nah, more people should say that it’s good to stand up for your family & to stand against someone using slurs like that. He did it in a way that caused no bodily harm/assault, yet left no question that this wouldn’t stand and stopped the guy’s behavior instantly. Good job Jason.”
