Jayden Daniels threw a walk-off hail mary for a touchdown from 52 yards to continue his incredible rookie season with the Washington Commanders – in what only can be described as an Aaron Rodgers-esque play.

With no time left on the clock, Daniels rolled to his left to avoid pressure before avoiding two pass-rushers and creating time for himself. He then stepped into the pocket and unleashed a huge throw down the field.

The throw was played poorly by the Chicago Bears defensive backs, who jumped up with Tyrique Stevenson patting the ball into the endzone where Noah Brown had been left unguarded. Brown swiftly capitalized on the error, making a catch that secured the win for Washington.

Earlier this season, Rodgers completed a similar play to Allen Lazard in what was his fourth hail mary of his career – the most in NFL history.

Today’s Commanders and Bears game had seen the number one overall pick from the recent NFL Draft, Caleb Williams, coming up against the number two pick in Daniels, with the latter being the more impressive of the two to begin the season.

Daniels’ rookie season has been nothing short of sensational. The LSU product has been putting up eye-catching statistics while limiting mistakes, potentially even joining the race for the regular season MVP.

The Heisman Trophy winner missed time last week after suffering a rib injury and he did look hampered throughout the game against the Bears on Sunday.

Despite this, Daniels managed to throw for 326 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions – in what was surprisingly just his sixth passing touchdown this season. And while his passing statistics are only subpar, it’s his ability as a rusher that has made him such a dangerous quarterback to play against with 372 yards and four touchdowns in eight games.

Should he surpass the 1,000 yards rushing amount on the season, while continuing to limit mistakes, Daniels will be a legitimate MVP candidate alongside the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.

The Commanders now have a 6-2 record, with a favorable schedule coming up in the next few weeks with the struggling New York Giants up next.
