Jake Paul has explained why he’s playing by Mike Tyson’s rulebook for their upcoming £30million boxing showdown this Saturday. Despite being 31 years younger than the heavyweight icon, Paul is gearing up to face ‘Iron Mike’ in a professional eight-round match where each round will be two minutes long.
They’ll both don heavier 14-ounce gloves, a move designed to minimize long-term harm, and knockouts are still on the table. The highly anticipated fight, set to rake in $19m for each, is slated to go down at the massive AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. At 27, Paul has tasted defeat just once in his 11-fight boxing career, which followed his rise to fame as a YouTuber.
Last year, Tommy Fury handed him that sole loss. But now, the Ohio-born internet sensation is eager to prove himself against Tyson, even if it means bending to the boxing legend’s preferred rules. On Suga Sean O’Malley’s YouTube show, Paul was quizzed about whether Tyson had called for the two-minute rounds and larger gloves.

“Yeah, that was always what he wanted from day one and I just wanted to agree to his rules, [to get it done]” Paul admitted. He added, “That’s mostly how I am with these fights, like, ‘what makes sense? Let’s make it a fair fight and move on and just make it happen’.”
Paul’s remarks follow the postponement of their initial bout in July. Tyson, now 58, experienced an ulcer flare-up during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles earlier this year and has disclosed the severity of his health scare.
“I asked the doctor, ‘Am I going to die? ‘” he shared with New York Magazine. “I lost 25 pounds in 11 days. Couldn’t eat. Only liquids. Every time I went to the bathroom, it smelled like tar.

“All my coordination, stamina, everything was hectic getting back. I was peaked already. I could have fought him that day. Now I got to start from scratch. I had, like, eight blood transfusions. The doctor said I lost half my blood. I almost died.”
In light of Tyson’s revelations, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has confirmed that he’ll undergo a series of pre-fight examinations. TLDR representative Tela Mange stated via World Boxing News: “Thorough pre-fight physicals will be conducted by TDLR-appointed physicians, who will discuss Mr Tyson’s medical history with him. Before the event, TDLR will conduct pre-fight physicals to ensure the health of both fighters.
“Tyson has previously hinted at the possibility of a rematch. Speaking on Impaulsive, hosted by Jake’s brother, Logan, he elaborated: “Two men are gonna fight, someone’s gonna win, they may fight again, and then they go to their separate banks and life goes on. “.
