Reports of Brazilian soccer star Neymar purchasing a lucrative property in Miami have many speculating if the 32-year-old is considering joining Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami.

Neymar acquired a 13,000-foot waterfront loft in the luxurious Bal Harbor for $26 million. The Brazilian star currently plays for Saudi outfit Al-Hillal, though he’s featured only six times since his 2023 transfer due to injuries.

Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino – who coached Neymar at Barcelona during the 2013-14 season – is encouraging fans to pump the breaks on any potential move. “Now everyone who buys a house in Miami is coming?” he said.

“With Leo and the boys here, anything is possible. But what I can’t imagine is if the league doesn’t make the salary issue more flexible, how it would be carried out.”

“It seems to me that when we talk about this, another type of support is needed. We cannot talk or mention a player because he bought a house here or has a girlfriend from Fort Lauderdale.”

Neymar starred for Barcelona with Messi and Suarez in the famed “MSN” front line from 2014-2017. The trio helped the club win two La Ligas, three Cop del Reys, and the 2015 Champions League.

The Brazilian joined Barcelona in 2013 with Martino at the helm before Suarez’s arrival. La Blaugrana managed 87 points but lost the league title to Atletico Madrid on the last day of the campaign.

“My start at Barcelona coincided with Ney’s,” Martino said. “It was a good year. To be able to coach players of that caliber always will be a special memory.”

Inter Miami may be hard-pressed to incorporate Neymar’s wages into their already-bloated books. MLS sides can only employ three designated players on their roster, and the club already has Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Leonardo Campana under the label (Suarez is listed as an International Player).

“The reality is that if there is something that the MLS has, it is that the rules are strict and can’t be broken unless the MLS decides to change,” Martino continued.

Inter Miami is gearing up for the second game of their first-round series against Atlanta United, Matino’s former team. Suarez scored in the second minute of the first game to propel his side to a 2-1 victory.

The second game in the best-of-three series is slated for Sunday in Atlanta. An Inter Miami victory would see them face the winner of the Orlando City and Charlotte FC series in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Suarez tied for second in the league with 21 regular season goals while Messi finished fourth with 20. DC United star and former Liverpool player Christian Benteke led the way with 23.
