California Governor Gavin Newsom has threatened to redraw California’s electoral map to benefit the Democrats in the 2026 Midterm Election after Republicans in Texas took giant leaps to do the same
California Governor Gavin Newsom has ramped up his taunting of Donald Trump, warning the former US President to brace for the ‘worst day’ of his life.
Newsom has pledged to redraw California’s electoral map in favor of the Democrats for the 2026 Midterm Election, following similar moves by Republicans in Texas.
In a move that mirrors Trump’s own distinctive style, Newsom issued his threats in all capitalized letters and lavished himself with compliments.
He also took a swipe at Trump’s controversial Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, dubbing her KaroLYIN and suggesting she’ll be left scrambling for answers when questioned about the new electoral maps. He went on to describe the maps as ‘the greatest maps ever created’, even surpassing those of Christopher Columbus, reports the Irish Star.
Late on Wednesday night, Newsom released a statement saying: “WOW! TOMORROW HISTORY WILL BE MADE. KaroLYIN LEAVITT WILL HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR THE SUPPOSED ‘FAKE MEDIA’ ABOUT CALIFORNIA’S BEAUTIFUL MAPS. PEOPLE ARE SAYING THEY ARE THE GREATEST MAPS EVER CREATED – EVEN BETTER THAN CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS’. DONALD ‘THE FAILURE’ TRUMP BE WARNED, TOMORROW MAY BE THE WORST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. ALL BECAUSE YOU ‘MISSED THE DEADLINE.’ LIBERATION DAY FOR AMERICA! ! ! – GCN”.
Texas Democrats have abandoned the Lone Star State to prevent Republicans from enacting a new congressional map that would significantly favor the GOP. While the senate approved the new map, it cannot receive complete authorization because the legislature lacks a quorum due to the departing Democrats.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced he will immediately call a new special session.
This marked Newsom’s second Trump-style social media outburst in consecutive days. The previous day he posted: “DONALD ‘TACO’ TRUMP, AS MANY CALL HIM, ‘MISSED’ THE DEADLINE! ! ! CALIFORNIA WILL NOW DRAW NEW, MORE ‘BEAUTIFUL MAPS,’ THEY WILL BE HISTORIC AS THEY WILL END THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY (DEMS TAKE BACK THE HOUSE! ).

In the 2018 midterm elections, the results produced a fresh Democratic majority in the U.S. House that obstructed Trump’s legislative priorities and resulted in his impeachment on two occasions.
At present, the nationwide maps position Democrats just three seats away from a House majority, during a period when only a few dozen districts out of 435 remain competitive.
Trump has supported the Texas redistricting proposal, claiming he is “entitled to five more seats” since he captured the state’s popular vote in 2024. No precedent exists for this assertion.
The White House is also making efforts to get other Republican states to redraw their own maps. JD Vance made a trip to Indiana last week to persuade lawmakers there, and Ohio and Missouri are also on the radar.
