Freddie Freeman could not conceal his shock after Giancarlo Stanton cracked an enormous two-run homer in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.
Freeman and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished on the winning side thanks to his remarkable grand slam in the bottom of the 10th, clinching a 6-3 win over the New York Yankees.
The Dodgers had a 1-0 lead through five innings, but Stanton turned the game on its head at Dodger Stadium in the top of the sixth with the slugger blasting a Jack Flaherty pitch high over left field and into the stands.

First baseman Freeman could do nothing but turn in shock and watch the ball sail out of the park, perfectly summing up what could have been an iconic moment for Stanton and the Yankees. The 34-year-old has been at the top of his game in the postseason, with six homers and 13 RBIs in 10 games.
But he was to be outdone. The Dodgers tied it up at the bottom of the eighth, and a scoreless ninth sent Game 1 to extra innings. The Yankees took the lead thanks to an Anthony Volpe RBI in the top of the 10th.

But when it was Freeman’s turn to step up to the plate, the bases were loaded with the Dodgers down to their final out. Nestor Cortes Jr. flung a 93mph fastball over the plate and Freeman seized the moment with the lefty bashing the ball high over right field and way over the wall for a walk-off grand slam to spark a jubilant celebration in LA.
The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the series, with Game 2 being held at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night as they look to take another big step closer to winning their second World Series title in four years.
Regardless of what happens in the rest of the series, the 35-year-old has made memories for a lifetime. The eight-time All-Star said: “That’s stuff, you’re 5 years old in the backyard right there,” Freeman said. “That’s a dream come true, but it’s only one. We’ve got three more.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts added: “I cannot believe what just happened. That’s what makes the Fall Classic a classic, right, because the stars come out and superstars make big plays, get big hits, in the biggest of moments. I’m speechless right now.”
Yankees superstar Aaron Judge had some wise words for his teammates after Friday’s dramatic climax. He said: ““We can’t sit here and mope. Learn from it, where we can improve, and try to win the next one.”
