Former NFL running back turned boxer Le’Veon Bell recently shared a story on social media, claiming he was let off by a traffic officer because of his pro-Trump “Make America Great Again” cap. Bell, now 32, spent nearly a decade in the NFL as a star running back before transitioning to the boxing ring.
Known for his outspoken support of Donald Trump, Bell sparked controversy earlier with a T-shirt featuring a derogatory message about Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Bell described an interaction with a police officer after being pulled over for driving 53 mph in a 45 mph zone. Bell recounted, “I got pulled over, cop asks for my license & registration, and while I’m in (the) process of getting everything for him, he then says, ‘I love your hat man.’”
Bell claims he responded enthusiastically with, “OF COURSE, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN SIR.” According to Bell, the officer returned his documents and ended the encounter with a friendly, “Have a great day, Mr. Bell.” Bell did not offer further details or evidence to confirm his account.
Bell’s public support for Trump has been consistent, even joining the former president on stage at a Pennsylvania rally in LaTrobe.
The appearance was notable as it also included Bell’s former NFL teammate, Antonio Brown, known for his own controversies both on and off the field. The rally concluded with Trump attending a Pittsburgh Steelers game.
However, Bell’s choice of apparel at the rally drew strong reactions online. He wore a T-shirt featuring Trump alongside an unflattering image of Vice President Harris, captioned with, “Trump or the Tramp?” The shirt’s messaging prompted backlash, with some fans criticizing Bell for the inflammatory statement.
One commenter wrote, “Only insecure, cowardly men feel the need to disparage women with slurs. You are disgusting and look like a clown.”
Bell, who once dominated the field with the Steelers before brief stints with the Jets, Chiefs, Ravens, and Buccaneers, has become increasingly vocal in his political stances since leaving the NFL.
His recent post about the alleged traffic stop, along with his public appearances and choice of attire, have further spotlighted his alignment with Trump’s campaign.
