Longtime broadcaster Joe Buck, who spent over two decades calling the World Series for FOX, shared his admiration for Joe Davis and the FOX crew following Game 1 of the 2024 World Series. Even though Buck no longer holds the mic for these iconic games, he couldn’t help but applaud Davis’s work and the entire FOX team’s production.

Davis, who now leads the broadcast team alongside analyst John Smoltz, had a memorable Game 1, including a dramatic call of Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The grand slam lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-3 victory over the New York Yankees, giving them an early lead in the series. Buck, a veteran in the booth for so many similar moments, felt that Davis’s call perfectly captured the excitement of the game.

“From the booth to the truck, Game 1 was an incredible watch. Perfect walk-off call by @Joe_Davis and the directing of Matt Gangl was magical,” Buck tweeted. “Watch it again and see the overhead shot while Freeman is between first and second. It’s like a movie. Matt is a genius. Enjoy the Emmy.”

Buck’s praise extended to FOX’s director Matt Gangl, whose overhead shot of Freeman rounding the bases added a cinematic quality to the moment.

Freeman’s grand slam came with the Dodgers trailing 3-2 and down to their final out, the bases loaded, and Freeman representing the team’s last hope. Davis’s enthusiastic, pitch-perfect call highlighted Freeman’s game-winning hit and added an extra layer of excitement for fans across the country.

The camera’s overhead shot perfectly captured Freeman’s reaction and the crowd’s roaring response, making the moment feel as if it were scripted for a Hollywood blockbuster.

The Game 1 excitement has set the stage for what fans hope will be an equally thrilling Game 2, with Davis back on the call for Saturday night’s matchup at 8 p.m. ET.

Buck’s endorsement is a high compliment from a seasoned voice of baseball, signaling that Davis and the FOX crew are creating a new legacy of World Series magic.
