As the Philadelphia Eagles look to shake things up coming out of their bye after an inconsistent 2-2 start to the season, head coach Nick Sirianni took things a step further by changing up his appearance.
Sirianni showed off his newly-shaved head on Sunday prior to the Eagles’ game against the Cleveland Browns at Lincoln Financial Field.
For a coach whose seat seems to be getting hotter every week, Sirianni’s decision to change his appearance could be interpreted in any number of ways.
Sirianni did address his job status on Friday when asked if Robert Saleh getting fired by the New York Jets makes him think about his own future.
“No,” Sirianni said. “Obviously wish him nothing but the best. I had a good working relationship with Coach Saleh, but my mind is only set on how do we get better. I know you can probably say, ‘That’s coachtalk.’ I’m not bulls–tting you. That’s how I live, that’s how I’ve operated.”
A lot of what happens with the Eagles for the rest of this season could depend on how Jalen Hurts performs and how he reacts to his head coach. It’s well-documented they didn’t see eye-to-eye last season.
Hurts told reporters on Wednesday that he and Sirianni shared some “great moments” and came “together in harmony” during the Eagles’ bye in Week 5.
Sunday is the start of a crucial stretch for the Eagles because three of their next four games are very winnable. They play the Browns, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars before back-to-back divisional games against the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders.
The Browns, Giants, Bengals and Jaguars currently have a 5-16 combined record. The Bengals are probably the best team in that group and could give Philadelphia trouble because of how well their offense is playing, but they are 1-4 because their defense ranks 31st in points allowed per game.
Sloppy play on both sides of the ball is at the root of Philadelphia’s 2-2 start. The Eagles are one of only two teams that have committed at least eight turnovers and played just four games. The Tennessee Titans are the other with nine turnovers through four games.
The defense has allowed at least 385 yards in three of four games in Vic Fangio’s first season as defensive coordinator.
All of these issues will ultimately come back to Sirianni if they continue to persist throughout the season because he’s the head coach. He may not be coaching for his job on Sunday, but the pressure on him will keep mounting if the Eagles don’t play well.
