Dustin Johnson attended Donald Trump‘s party to celebrate the Republicans winning the U.S. Election and was joined by father-in-law and NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.
Johnson is one of several golfers to endorse Trump, with Bryson DeChambeau, Anthony Kim, and John Daly also expressing gratitude that he was elected over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Johnson posed for photos at Trump’s party at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, and did so alongside the Gretzky family.
Gretzky’s daughter, Paulina, is married to Johnson and they’ve been together since 2013, but they all attended as a family as the NHL legend also brought his wife Janet and son Trevor. However, in showing his support for Trump the hockey icon appears to have upset some of his loyal fans back home in Canada.
While Trump’s popularity is on the rise in Canada according to The Globe and Mail, many fans of Gretzky were still disappointed to see him wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat. “Gretzky was my idol growing up so this stings. A lot,” one fan wrote on social media.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Wayne Gretzky since he entered pro hockey with the WHA with the Racers I have always idolized the man. This is very disappointing to see that he would support a man with such low character,” another added.
“So disappointed in the Gretzky family. I looked up to you since I was a child. You were the role model for decency and family. All my memories are now tarnished and I will no longer think of you as one of the greats on and off the ice,” one fan claimed.
Regardless of Gretzky’s political views, he remains the greatest talent in NHL history and is yet to be challenged. The four-time Stanley Cup champion leads the NHL in goals, assists, and points scored. Gretzky is also the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season.
Gretzky now works as a studio analyst for NHL broadcasts on TNT and TBS and is an avid golfer. Gretzky played regularly with Johnson in the past but has recently recommended that the LIV Golf star find a younger partner due to his aging.
The hockey legend told The Globe and Mail that he plays three times a week with his wife, but has lost the competitive trait after so many years as an elite athlete. “I enjoy golf,” Gretzky said. “It is one of the sports you can play as a family forever.
“My wife has taken lessons and is very competitive. I am the opposite. If I shoot an 81 or a 91 it’s not going to change my life. I don’t have that competitive juice anymore. I’ve been there and done that.”
