Doug was one of the earliest Nicktoons titles, premiering in August 1991. The animated series followed Douglas Yancey Funnie, who lived in the fictional town of Bluffington with his parents, Phil and Theda, and his sister, Judy. Also fixtures in the show were Doug’s friends — Skeeter, Patti and Beebe — and Quailman, his superhero-like alter ego.
Among the other shows no longer available on the streaming outlet are Blue’s Room, a puppetry series that was a spin-off of Blue’s Clues, and Big Time Rush, which followed four best friends as they traded typical high-school life to pursue pop music stardom in Los Angeles as a boy band.
Social media users have been quick to criticize the streamer for removing the titles.
“One of the 3 original Nicktoons. Ouch. I will forever cherish my physical media,” wrote one Reddit user, alluding to the fact that Doug was one of three original Nicktoons, along with Rugrats and The Ren & Stimpy Show.
“Of all shows, you’re going to remove the VERY FIRST Nicktoon?” wrote another person on Reddit. “I actually recently watched the entire Nick series of Doug using Paramount Plus. Good thing I finished in time.”
Added another: “Doug didn’t deserve this.”
Reps for Paramount+ have not yet replied to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
