The stars could be aligning for the Dallas Cowboys to acquire a new star wide receiver in a blockbuster trade.

On Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks star wideout D.K. Metcalf requested a trade, according to multiple reports, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter. A Seattle source said the team will “do what’s best for the Seahawks,” but will explore potential trades.

Not only do the Cowboys have a need for a second receiver to pair with CeeDee Lamb, but Lamb himself may have helped Dallas’ odds at landing Metcalf, in tandem with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Over the past two days, Dallas saved $56.6 million against the salary cap by converting the majority of Lamb’s and Prescott’s 2025 salaries to signing bonuses. According to tone NFL writer, that could open the door to a Metcalf trade.

On Wednesday, USA Today’s Jacob Camenker named the Cowboys as one of six potential “landing spots” for Metcalf in light of the star’s desire to get out of Seattle.

“The Cowboys need a No. 2 receiver across from CeeDee Lamb. Metcalf would certainly fill that void, and he overlapped with Brian Schottenheimer for two of the Cowboys coach’s three years in Seattle,” Camenker wrote.

“Originally, there were questions about whether the Cowboys could afford Metcalf. However, after Dak Prescott and Lamb restructured their contracts to open up $56.6 million in new salary cap space for Dallas, the Cowboys can afford to take a swing at Metcalf if they believe him to be a fit.”

Metcalf, 27, has amassed 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns thus far during his six-year career, spent entirely with Seattle. He’s set to make $31.9 million this season in the final year of a three-year extension.

If the Cowboys are going to add significant payroll in the wake of the Lamb and Prescott restructures, doing so for an expensive one-year contract is the way to go.

Adding Metcalf would be an all-in move that could help Dallas finally break through in their quest to end a 30-year conference title game drought.
