The defending back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL at 9-0, and they’re reportedly set to get a bigger boost this week.
According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Chiefs are planning to designate running back Isiah Pacheco to return from injured reserve along with defensive lineman Charles Omenihu ahead of their Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Pacheco has been sidelined since suffering a fibula injury in Kansas City’s Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported at the time that he would miss six to eight weeks but was expected to return at some point this season.
Before going down with the injury, Pacheco recorded 34 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown while adding seven catches for 54 yards in two games. The 2022 seventh-round pick would have been a focal point of the Chiefs offense had he remained healthy, so the team will undoubtedly benefit from his return.
In Pacheco’s absence, the Chiefs brought back veteran Kareem Hunt to stabilize the running back position, and he’s been a perfect fit. The 29-year-old, who began his career in Kansas City in 2017 before being released the following year, has racked up 125 carries for 449 yards and five touchdowns with 14 catches for 116 yards through six games this season.
Hunt’s presence will allow the Chiefs to ease Pacheco back in while he still gets his legs under him. When Pacheco returns to form, Kansas City will have a dangerous duo in its backfield to take pressure off of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs will be attempting to achieve their first 10-0 start in franchise history on Sunday when they face the Bills, who lead the AFC East with an 8-2 record.
