Caitlin Clark is reportedly considering a change of heart after holding talks with the newly-launched Unrivaled Series.

Despite previously expressing disinterest in joining another basketball league during the offseason, the 22-year-old WNBA sensation, who was named Rookie of the Year for her outstanding performances with the Indiana Fever, now appears to have shifted her position following a supposedly colossal offer from the emerging competition.

According to Sports Business Journal, the proposed three-month contract is worth $1million (£775,000) and includes “significant equity” in the business. The same publication claims Clark is now 60/40 in favor of accepting the offer after holding high-level talks.

The Unrivaled Series, a women’s three-on-three league founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, is set to tip off its inaugural season in Miami in January 2025.

The league will run until mid-March, roughly two months before the start of the WNBA season. Initially planned for 30 players, the league announced this week that it had expanded to 36 after “surpassing its initial revenue goals”, as stated by president Alex Bazzell.

The league’s popularity would undoubtedly surge if they could lure Clark, whose phenomenal Rookie season has contributed significantly to the growing popularity of women’s basketball. Clark has been reassured that there’s no rush for her to make a decision, with Bazzell confidently telling Sportico: “We’re always going to have a roster spot for Caitlin Clark.

He later added: “We’re not applying a full-court press the way people think. We are letting her decompress from basketball. She knows that we have a spot for her when she’s ready. We have an obligation to continuously add the best of the best wherever we can.”

Even though Clark has the luxury of time on her side, the selection clock is ticking, with the 36-player roster for the competition due to be officially locked in by November 20. This gives her just under three weeks to make her mind up.

The reported $1m salary offer is substantially more than her current WNBA base salary of $76,535 (£58,950). That said, her income is significantly boosted by her various lucrative endorsement deals.

Unrivaled seem to be pulling out all the stops to get Clark, having signed two of her good friends; Fever team-mate Lexie Hull and former college team-mate Kaye Martin – in hopes it might influence her decision.
