Bryson DeChambeau was paraded as a hero by his former college at Southern Methodist University, as he returned to his alma mater with his U.S. Open trophy in hand.
DeChambeau secured the second major championship of his career at Pinehurst No. 2 this year, defeating Rory McIlroy during a dramatic final round in North Carolina. Since then, the LIV Golf star has enjoyed parading his U.S. Open trophy around, with his latest stop SMU.
Attending the Mustangs’ clash with the Pittsburgh Panthers last weekend, the Crushers GC captain was driven onto the field at Gerald J. Ford Stadium with his trophy lifted into the air and two cheerleaders beside him.

DeChambeau then made his way into the stands and continued to parade his silverware with those around him as the game went on. The U.S. Open champion has been generous with his time when it comes to celebrating with his trophy ever since his victory.
In the immediate aftermath at Pinehurst in June, DeChambeau celebrated with those in attendance, allowing members of the gallery the chance to get their hands on the U.S. Open title. Speaking after his famous victory, the two-time winner outlined the importance of the crowd and his fans behind him.
“I just can’t thank you guys enough for all the support this week. You guys have meant the world to me. You are the best fans in the world, and I can’t thank you enough. What a group of people,” DeChambeau said in his victory speech after accepting the U.S. Open trophy.

Hailing the impact of the crowds further, he went on: “I mean, my mission is to continue to expand the game, grow the game globally, domestically. YouTube has really helped me accomplish some of that. Consequently, I think people have seen who I am on YouTube, which has been fantastic, ’cause then I get to play off of it.
“It just feeds itself out here. They just say things that make me interact and engage. When is the next junior club set coming out? Another video of the junior club set. I’m just able to play off of that. It’s direct conversations with people that truly engage with what I’m doing. It’s such an awesome, awesome platform for me to show who I truly am.
“Those fans out there really helped push me out there today. Even when stuff wasn’t going well, I’m just looking on the screen back there, I have nothing there, no business even trying to go for that. But you know me; I don’t play boring golf. Again, even though I hit it in the bunker, the fans are still chanting my name.
“So inspired me to get that one up-and-down… All I want to do is entertain and do my best for the game of golf, execute, and provide some awesome entertainment for the fans. From at least what I can tell, that’s what the fans want, and they deserve that.” DeChambeau now has a three-month break from the LIV setup but has the small matter of “The Showdown” alongside Brooks Koepka against Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
