Bruce Willis is the proud father of five daughters, and they equally adore their dad.
Willis shares Rumer Glenn Willis, Scout LaRue Willis, and Tallulah Belle Willis with his first wife Demi Moore; after marrying model Emma Heming in 2009, the couple welcomed two more girls – Mabel Ray Willis, 12, and Evelyn Penn Willis.
“Bruce’s response when asked if he’d like to have a son?… ‘I’d have 5 more girls right now,’ ” Heming shared on Instagram in June 2021.
The actor’s blended family was already uncommonly close when, in 2022, they released a statement revealing that Willis would be retiring from acting after having been diagnosed with aphasia. In early 2023, the family shared that his condition had progressed into frontotemporal dementia.
Since then, Willis’ family has given glimpses inside their life, celebrating holidays and expressing gratitude for their dad. Look back at their sweetest photos over the years.
A Different Happily Ever After
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, who married in November 1987, separated in June 1998 and finalized their divorce in 2000. Rather than letting the dissolution of their marriage mean the end of their relationship, the pair became Hollywood’s friendliest exes, co-parenting daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.
In 2001, the entire family went to the premiere of Bandits to support Willis.
Willis told Rolling Stone in 2000 that he hadn’t figured out what exactly went wrong with their marriage, but asserted, “We’re very close. We have three children whom we will continue to raise together, and we’re probably as close now as we ever were. We realize we have a lifelong commitment to our kids. Our friendship continues. The institution has been set aside.”
More the Merrier
The whole family got together, including Moore’s then-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, to support her at the 2003 premiere of Charlie’s Angels 2: Full Throttle.
Friendly Faces
It could be awkward for your ex to meet your current boyfriend, but that wasn’t the case for Moore: She and Kutcher were there for Willis’ 49th birthday in 2004. Willis was in attendance at the couple’s 2005 nuptials.
Go Bears!
You know what they say: exes who watch the Super Bowl together …
Actually, that’s not what they say, but Moore and Willis (and Kutcher) hung out at the 2007 Super Bowl anyway.
Living Free
In 2007, the exes walked the carpet together as a family for the premiere of Willis’ film Live Free or Die Hard.
Going Strong
In 2007, Willis invited his then-girlfriend Emma Heming to the afterparty for Moore’s movie, Flawless.
Willis married Heming in 2009 and the couple share two daughters, Mabel Ray, 10, and Evelyn Penn, 8.
Moore attended the pair’s vow renewal ceremony in March 2019.
Gang’s All Here
One big happy family! Everyone (and their significant others) got together in 2008 to support Rumer at the premiere of The House Bunny.
Healthy Co-Parenting
Willis and Moore never miss a beat when it comes to supporting their kids. Here they are with Rumer in 2011.
Rumer told Larry David in a 2015 interview, “I never had to split up vacations or split up birthdays. They always made an effort to do all of the family events still together and made such an effort to still have our family be as one unit, as opposed to two separate things, which I think really made an impact.”
Supportive Family Unit
When Rumer competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2015, her mom was, naturally, in the audience to cheer her on, along with Heming Willis, Willis and their young daughters, plus Scout and Tallulah.
And the Beat Goes On
The whole family attended Rumer’s Broadway debut when she played Roxie Hart in Chicago.
Rumer’s 30th
And of course they were there for Rumer’s 30th birthday. Here they are pictured with their youngest daughter, Tallulah.
Roasting a Legend
Moore was on hand with plenty of jokes for the Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis.
“We had some great times together,” Moore told the audience. “I had three beautiful, amazing children. Four if you count Bruce. And then there’s the dogs and Ashton, so that’s like six.”
She also joked, “We did argue over names. In the end, Bruce won: That’s how they got stuck with Willis.”
Friends Forever
Willis was there for the release of Moore’s memoir, Inside Out, alongside their children Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, and his wife, Emma Heming Willis.
Moore wrote in her memoir of their split, “I think Bruce was fearful at the beginning that I was going to make our split difficult, and that I would express my anger and whatever baggage that I had from our marriage by obstructing his access to the kids — that I’d turn to all of those ploys divorcing couples use as weapons. But I didn’t, and neither did he.”
Family Fun Time
It is all about the kids. Moore wrote in her memoir, “We managed to move the heart of our relationship, the heart of what created our family, into something new that gave the girls a loving, supportive environment with both parents.”
A Family That Matches PJs …
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the exes were self-isolating together in matching pajamas at their nearby homes in Idaho, with their older daughters and their signifcant others.
Moore captioned a shot of the crew, “Family bonding,” while Willis’ wife (who was not yet isolating with them) commented, “At its finest 💚💚💚 love and miss you guys 💚💚💚.”
Heming Willis, Mabel and Evelyn eventually joined the crew.
Happy Birthday Emma!
Heming Willis celebrated her 42nd birthday in 2020 with Willis, Moore and their family by her side in Idaho.
The birthday girl shared photos of the festivities on Instagram, writing in the caption, “It really was a happy birthday for me 💞.”
Months later, Moore penned an International Women’s Day tribute to Heming Willis.
“@emmahemingwillis: I #SeeHer as family who I am honored to call a friend.”
“Our children are sisters and yet there is no name for what our family connection is to one another. We are mothers united, sisters bonded on this crazy adventure of life.”
Operation Quarantine
At the height of the pandemic, the gang started a family book club to keep things upbeat as the world was shut down.
Picture-Perfect
And when your family is full of artists, game night tends to look a little different.
The happy crew was pictured painting some mini portraits while quarantining.
Cheers to 67
In March 2022, Moore toasted her ex’s 67th birthday, writing alongside this Instagram photo, “Thankful for our blended family 🤍.”
Happy Holidays
The Christmas spirit was in full effect as the fam was pictured during the merry holiday this past December.
Unbeatable Connection
Another family member head over heels over Bruce is Pilaf, Tallulah’s dog, who was clearly mesmerized by the actor in this ultra-cute pic.
Bruce Retires from Acting
In March 2022, Bruce’s family revealed the beloved actor had been diagnosed with aphasia — a condition that “robs you of the ability to communicate” and “can affect your ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written,” according to Mayo Clinic. They also announced that because of his condition, he would be retiring from his decades-long acting career.
In February 2023, the family gave an update on his condition, revealing in a statement that his condition had been classified as frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),” Heming Willis wrote.
“Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”
She ended the statement thanking fans for their well wishes and support.
Happy Day
In keeping with tradition, the Die Hard actor was surrounded by his beloved family for his 68th birthday in March 2023.
“Today was a good day,” Heming Willis captioned a photo posted to her Instagram stories.
Singing Happy Birthday
But the celebrations didn’t stop there. Demi Moore also posted a heartwarming video of the entire family singing “Happy Birthday” to their patriach.
Special Moments
Mother-to-be Rumer also used Instagram to pay homage to her Dad.
“Happy Birthday Daddio I love you to the 🌙 You are so cool,” she captioned this adorable pic with her papa.
Giving Thanks
For Thanksgiving 2024, daughters Tallulah and Scout posted photos to Instagram that showed them spending quality time with Bruce as he held a gift labeled “Best Dad Ever.” They wrote in the caption, “Grateful.”
Hugs from Dad
In December 2024, Scout posted a video of some of the family time she’d recently spent, and included a snapshot of her giving her dad a big bear hug.
Tender Throwbacks
Ahead of the 2024 holidays, Bruce’s wife Emma posted a handful of photos from past years that featured Willis spending quality time with his two youngest daughters, and the caption “Him. Always.”
