Bill Belichick has the pick of the NFL to choose from as he reportedly lines up his return to the sport, with plenty of teams vying for his signature.
The ex-head coach and general manager for the New England Patriots enjoyed huge success with them, winning six Super Bowl titles, nine conference championships, 17 division trophies and a total of 30 wins in the play-offs. This record has seen him go down as one of the most successful managers in the league, but now the 72-year-old could restart his career with a different team in the NFL.
According to The Athletic, a source close to Belichick said: “Coaching is in his blood. He wants this.” However, former NFL coach Bill Cowher has admitted that he sees a future in broadcasting for Belichick, even if his successes do lie on the field.
Cowher said: “I think Bill will go back to coaching. I really do. But I also think he’s getting more and more comfortable as a broadcaster. I think Bill’s got the bug. But he’s getting better and better as a broadcaster and he’s getting plenty of practice. He’s on every different platform! Practice is not a problem with Bill.”

If the veteran coach does decide to return to the gridiron, plenty of struggling franchises could secure his services – including the Dallas Cowboys. So, which NFL team should Belichick head to in order to share some of his knowledge and steer them onto the path of success?
Dallas Cowboys – America’s struggling team yet to find form
The 3-7 Cowboys are an obvious choice for Belichick to come work his magic, given that the team isn’t in need of a complete rebuild and potentially could just be looking for someone to come in and steady the ship.
However, owner and general manager Jerry Jones has insisted on many occasions that he won’t bring in another higher management position, in order not to diminish the job of vice president Will McClay as his right-hand man.

Despite this promise, Jones may find it difficult to turn down the services of Belichick, given that his team look to be in dire need of some fresh opportunities and play styles. And the 72-year-old could be akin to dealing with the current power dynamic at the Cowboys, given how long it has been that way in the NFC East team.
Buffalo Bills – the makings of something great
The Buffalo Bills are on the opposite end of the pendulum compared to the Cowboys, with a stellar record of 9-2 and coming off the back of an important 30-21 win to the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the AFC East team are yet to make it to the Super Bowl in this millennium.
The Bills are one of two teams – the other being the Minnesota Vikings – to have four Super Bowl appearances and not record a win in the all-important game.

This area of struggle could be something that Belichick can come in and help with, given his track record of winning six as a head coach with the Patriots and two as a defensive coordinator with the New York Giants.
Belichick has also been complimentary of the Bills in the past, praising the defense’s ability to hide their scheme through the snap. Back in October, the 72-year-old said: “It’s just so hard to recognize this defense until after the snap. Then you know what they’re doing, but if you try to guess with them before the snap, you’re just going to guess wrong a lot.”
Philadelphia Eagles – vying for another Super Bowl win
The Philadelphia Eagles ended their 2023 season in an unfortunate fashion, going 11-6 and losing their wild-card play-off game in a 32-9 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This harsh end to their campaign had head coach Nick Sirianni’s job up in the air, as Belichick was tipped to take over the reins in the NFC East.

In 2024, the Eagles are 8-2 and are on a six-game winning streak on their way to the play-offs. They could be in contention to head to another Super Bowl – should they be able to contend with the high-flying Detroit Lions, the young and hungry Green Bay Packers, or the surprise Arizona Cardinals.
Belichick’s expertise in the area of play-offs could be his calling card to join the Eagles in a management capacity, as the NFC look to stop the Chiefs pursuit of a historic three-peat. Andy Reid is a play-off run and successful Super Bowl away from becoming the first head coach to win the coveted Lombardi trophy three years in a row – and Belichick could swoop in to stop him from achieving this historic triumph at the last moment.
It would be fitting to see Reid and Belichick battling it out in the Super Bowl, given their successes as head coaches of their respective teams – but fans will just have to wait and see if the veteran coach returns to the sidelines in any capacity this season.
