New York Giants fans don’t have much to be thankful for this season, which is all-but over before their team’s Thanksgiving day matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

At 2-9, the Giants are tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders for the worst record in the NFL. Per Tankathon, New York actively possesses the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft – though could make a push for the first overall selection should their struggles persist.

Despite still having six more games to play this season, the Giants have already begun to take the initial steps in what will likely be an extensive rebuild. Last week, New York granted quarterback Daniel Jones’ request to be released, bringing an unceremonious end to his six years spent in the Big Apple.

Following the departure of Jones, it seems as though several Giants’ top brass could soon be shown the door as well. Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen actively find themselves on the hot seat after several up-and-down years at the helm.

Giants hire Bill Belichick as next head coach

The Giants could turn to an old foe to fill their vacant head coaching position if they do in fact decide to part ways with Daboll. Former New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick is itching to return to the sidelines for the 2025-26 campaign, and would be a strong fit for the team that defeated him twice in the Super Bowl.

Belichick’s resume speaks for itself as the third-winningest coach in the NFL, while his admiration for the Giants is no secret. Should New York additionally kick Schoen to the curb, the 72-year-old would be given free rein on many of the organization’s decisions – similar to the role he played in New England.

Giants draft Shedeur Sanders with first-round pick

Unless the Giants manage to pull off a miraculous late-season resurgence, chances are they’ll be drafting quite early in April, most likely within the top-five picks. New York would be wise to use their selection on Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders – whose lively persona would fit well in a big market such as the Big Apple.

Though Sanders certainly comes with several question marks, the highly-touted prospect stands as one of, if not the best signal-caller available in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants, meanwhile, actively boast the weakest quarterback rooms in the league with Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock and Tim Boyle rounding out the list.

Over 11 games this season, Sanders has completed 303-of-413 passes for 3,488 yards, 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Giants make major free agency splash, sign Tee Higgins

Following the release of Jones, the Giants freed up $19.4 million in cap space in 2025 – providing New York a golden opportunity to make a massive splash in free agency.

One of the biggest names available on the market will be Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, who’s battled a myriad of health setbacks this season, yet has still managed to reel in 38 catches for 489 yards and four touchdowns.

The Giants already boast a formidable WR1 in standout rookie Malik Nabers, but could certainly use more talent in a thin wide receiver room. By adding Higgins to the mix, New York would have arguably one of the best one-two punches in the league – a dream for just about any rookie quarterback coming into the NFL.
