Ashton Jeanty has issued a classy yet confident response after Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter claimed he should be the favorite for the Heisman Trophy.

Boise State running back Jeanty leads the betting for the prestigious accolade awarded to the best player in college football. Hunter was a close second just a couple of weeks ago, but after low-profile performances against Kansas State and Arizona due to injury, he has fallen behind Miami and Oregon quarterbacks Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel in the eyes of the oddsmakers.

Jeanty has racked up 1,248 yards and 17 touchdowns in just six games this season, putting him on pace to have a shot at breaking Barry Sanders’ all-time NCAA rushing record of 2,628 yards for Oklahoma State in 1988.

Hunter, meanwhile, has made an unprecedented impact on both sides of the ball for the Buffaloes, staking a claim to be both the best wide receiver and cornerback in the nation. Jeanty is full of praise for Hunter’s remarkable efforts, but the 20-year-old junior believes he will be the man lifting the Heisman in December.

“Kudos to Travis, he’s balling for real. He’s doing some stuff we ain’t ever seen nobody do,” Jeanty told YouTuber Deestroying. “Personally, I don’t take no offense to it. He’s just speaking his opinion, everybody’s got an opinion.

“For me, what I’ve been doing hasn’t been done in 36, 37 years, so that’s something special. If I keep that up and break a record that’s been around for 36 years, I feel like you can’t really compete with that.”

Jeanty’s comments follow Hunter’s claim that he is a one-of-a-kind player and his skills should be recognized by Heisman voters over a running back – even one of Jeanty’s quality.

“I know I can win it, but I don’t know who’s there,” Hunter told Robert Griffin III’s “Out Of Pocket” podcast earlier this month. “I mean y’all see Ashton Jeanty, it’s not like we haven’t seen a running back that’s good. We haven’t seen a player that plays both ways and I’m gonna keep saying that.”

Jeanty, however, is adamant he is the best player in the nation and he believes the Heisman is his if he can continue his enormous production for the No. 17 Broncos.

“Me, for sure,” he said. “You know I gotta say me. [Hunter] is balling, but I just feel like what I’m doing, it’s too special. I watch Travis, I watch his games, incredible player. I’ve never seen people do that he’s doing. But I know myself, I know my talent, I feel like I’m the best player in college football.”
