The vibes surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars are downright putrid right now after their 35-16 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, which dropped them to 1-5 on the season.

After the game, safety Andre Cisco was blunt when he told Action Sports Jax that he saw “a lot of quit” and sensed a lack of unity when the team fell behind by 11 points in the first half.

Even the best teams can have a bad day at the office in the NFL. Playing an international game, which the Jaguars did Sunday in London, raises the likelihood of that happening, too, so traveling abroad disrupts a player’s usual routine.

Jacksonville’s loss isn’t taken in isolation, though.

The Jags are falling well short of expectations. This is a roster that team owner Shad Khan claimed was the best in franchise history while stating twice that “winning now is the expectation.”

Simply put, this is a team that’s less than the sum of its parts. All you need is the eye test to see that.

Jacksonville entered Sunday with a bottom-five defense in both yards and points. Franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence isn’t getting any better. Players who signed big contracts or were selected with high draft picks aren’t delivering.

And the most damning indictment of the coaching staff is the lack of effort once things start going wrong.

On Oct. 1, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the locker room was souring on head coach Doug Pederson.

It turns out that a three-point win over the Indianapolis Colts may not have totally rallied the troops. Cisco’s comments gave the impression the general atmosphere within the squad is only deteriorating.

We’re only one day removed from Khan giving Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke a vote of confidence.

“I still believe in them. I believe in the players, I believe in the coaching staff. I believe in Trent [Baalke],” he told the Florida Times-Union‘s Demetrius Harvey. “Obviously, the results are disappointing for all of them, just as well as me or any other Jaguar fan, but, the key thing one has to understand [is] we have evolved and really got to a level. I think we’ve got the players, we’ve got the coaching, we’ve got the facilities.”
