New England Patriots defensive star Christian Barmore has accused police officers of racial discrimination following a traffic stop that occurred early Wednesday morning. The incident, which has quickly garnered attention, involved Barmore being pulled over by police officers who claimed they could not verify the registration status of his Jeep Cherokee due to a plate cover blocking the visibility of his temporary license plate.
According to reports, Barmore’s slow stop further raised suspicions among the officers, who believed he might be concealing something.
Barmore, who signed a lucrative four-year contract extension worth up to $92 million in April, did not hold back in expressing his frustration during the stop. Video footage captured the 25-year-old defensive lineman accusing the police of racist behavior. “Y’all f–king touch me. Y’all crazy,” Barmore can be heard saying in the video. “I didn’t do s–t to y’all. I f–king dare y’all to touch me. I dare y’all to touch me. I’ll sue all y’all.”
The video, which was released shortly after the incident, shows a tense scene with at least eight officers surrounding Barmore’s vehicle. Despite Barmore requesting a simple ticket for the alleged traffic violation, officers suggested they might tow the car or conduct a search. According to officials, marijuana was found inside the vehicle during the stop, adding another layer of controversy to the encounter.

Barmore later took to social media to voice his outrage, accusing the officers of being “very unprofessional” and engaging in “racism at its finest.” In a since-deleted post, Barmore wrote, “I just experienced for the first time 5 Providence cops being very unprofessional. Racism at its finest.”
The incident has sparked discussions within the Patriots organization, with head coach Jerod Mayo addressing the situation during a press conference. Mayo acknowledged that he had spoken with Barmore earlier that day but chose not to delve into the details publicly, stating, “I had a conversation with him this morning. … But for this time here with you guys, I just want to focus on Jacksonville.” Mayo added that the team captains had addressed the situation internally and would continue to monitor how it might impact the team moving forward.
In response to the accusations, the Providence Police Department issued a statement, defending the actions of their officers. “The Providence Police Department takes all concerns from the public very seriously and with the utmost professionalism,” the department told Boston 25 News. “In this particular case, the vehicle in question was found to be unregistered during a routine traffic stop, which is a violation of the law. The officer acted in full compliance with department protocols and state regulations.”
The department emphasized that while interactions with law enforcement can be stressful, officers are required to enforce laws, including those related to vehicle registration. They also assured the public that the incident would be reviewed to ensure that proper procedures were followed.
The traffic stop has added further distraction for the Patriots, who are already dealing with a difficult season, sitting at 1-5. They are scheduled to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday.
The team will need to balance their focus on the game while addressing the internal and external ramifications of the Barmore incident, which continues to unfold both on social media and within the legal system.
