Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown revealed he copied his headstand celebration in Sunday’s victory over the Green Bay Packers from an unheralded college football player.
All-Pro wide receiver St. Brown put the Lions 7-3 on top in the second quarter, catching a three-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff before pulling off the celebration, hopping into a headstand before a forward roll.
Clips of the celebration soon went viral on social media, and St. Brown was quizzed about the celebration in a postgame interview with Tom Brady, who was in the booth for FOX and handed the receiver his “LFG Player of the Game” title award fawning over the 25-year-old’s performance.

“I saw someone do it in college yesterday,” St. Brown admitted. “I was on my phone and scrolling through social media and I saw a guy do it, and I thought, ‘Oh, I gotta hit that’
“And fortunately enough, one of my fellow teammates that I played with at USC, Drake London, he did the same thing before me, and I’m like, ‘Damn, he already did it.’ I said, ‘I’m still gonna do it, though, if I score’.”
The college player in question was Jalen Walthall of the University of The Incarnate Word, based in San Antonio. He performed the headstand after hauling in a long touchdown grab during Saturday’s one-sided victory over Southland Conference rivals Houston Christian.
Walthall, who finished with four catches for 59 yards and his touchdown, was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after performing his headstand. St. Brown’s, however, went unpunished.
As St. Brown mentioned, he was not the first player in the NFL to copy the celebration on Sunday. In the early window of games, Atlanta Falcons star Drake London performed a headstand in the endzone after catching a nine-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins in the 27-21 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Falcons improved to 6-3 on the season, but it is the Lions who are the talk of the NFC, going to 7-1 after a 24-14 victory at Lambeau Field which enhanced their claim to be the most complete team in the NFL. St. Brown was proud of the team’s performance.
“We knew coming into this it was going to be a tough, tough game,” he added. “They’re a good team with a great defense and conditions we typically don’t usually play in – we play indoors, so we knew with the rain, it might be more of a run-heavy game.
“But I think we’re built for that. We knew it was going to be this type of game and I’m just glad we came out on top.”
