Alec Baldwin slammed President Donald Trump for his policing takeover in Washington, D.C., warning that the president will continue to use any means to ‘deflect from his inadequacy’
Actor Alec Baldwin has slammed President Donald Trump for his crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., and issued a stark warning that this could only be the beginning and that the president will continue to use any means to “deflect from his inadequacy.”
On Monday, Trump enacted a sweeping federal takeover of D.C.s policing, announcing he would deploy the National Guard and place the citys police department under federal control in a bid to tackle crime, which he claims is out of control.
In a video uploaded to his official TikTok page, the 67-year-old Hollywood star, whose civil lawsuit against the prosecutors in his Rust trial has been dismissed, suggested Trump would not stop with D.C., and, listing cities across the U.S. and sporting institutions like the NFL, asked whether he was going to “take them over” as well.
Baldwin said, “Whats gonna happen next? Is Trump gonna federalize the New York City Police Department? Whats after that? Chicago, L.A., Miami, Boston, and on and on? Whats after that? The NFL? The NBA? Is he gonna federalize them to take them over?”
He continued, “All he wants to do is deflect from his inadequacy by the bold, insane moves. The takeover of D.C. police, its not what I need. I dont need this D.C. police to be taken over. I dont. They need to get the tariffs over with.
“They need to get the war over with. They need to get the Gaza thing over with. And after that, we have something else we have to get over with.”
National Guard members have started pouring into Washington D.C. after Trump labeled, without evidence, the U.S. capital as a lawless city.
Around 800 Guards started arriving in the city on Wednesday. It comes after the Republican President said he would take over control of the city’s police department.
Trump claimed it was an emergency due to crime in the city, but officials say it is significantly decreasing. By the evening, the administration announced that National Guard members were expected to be patrolling the streets starting Tuesday night, according to a White House official.
The Army stated there were no specifics on the locations they will be patrolling, according to an official who spoke anonymously for the same reason.
Mayor Muriel Bowser vowed to cooperate with the federal officials Trump has assigned to oversee the enforcement, while insisting that the police chief remained in command of the department and its officers.
“How we got here or what we think about the circumstances – right now we have more police, and we want to make sure we use them,” she informed reporters.
On August 14, Trump suggested that he would try to avoid congressional approval to extend his 30-day hold on the D.C. Metropolitan police. “If its a national emergency, we can do it without Congress, but we expect to be before Congress very quickly,” Trump said. The president appears to be banking on the support of his Republican allies in both the House and Senate.
However, he also maintained that even if the House fails to approve an extension, he would go forward with the takeover by declaring a national emergency. “I dont want to call a national emergency,” Trump said before adding, “If I have to, I will.”
