Aaron Rodgers had a unique choice of words to explain why he’s not worried about the New York Jets’ struggles this season.
“Thankfully, we’re not to the denouement of this season,” Rodgers said, via Zak Keefer of The Athletic. “There’s still a lot of time left. It’s important that we all stay as sanguine as possible.”
The Jets suffered a disappointing 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, blowing a five-point lead late in the fourth quarter. The Patriots entered the contest with a 1-6 record and rookie quarterback Drake Maye left in the first quarter with a concussion, but backup Jacoby Brissett was still able to thrive against New York’s defense.
Rodgers finished 17-of-28 for 233 yards and two touchdowns in the defeat.
Expectations were high for the Jets entering the season with the four-time MVP back under center, winning two of their first three contests. However, New York responded with a five-game losing streak.
The 40-year-old stressed that the team needs to be better in all three phases moving forward.
“We’re not playing complementary football,” Rodgers said, per Steve Serby of the New York Post. “We haven’t put it together really since the last time we won a game where all three phases played really well. Same thing today.”
The Jets fired former head coach Robert Saleh following a 2-3 start, but the change hasn’t resulted in a win throughout three games under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich. New York also acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade and had pass-rusher Haason Reddick make his season debut against New England, but it still wasn’t enough to win.
While Rodgers isn’t running out of words to describe his team, the Jets are running out of answers.
