NFL star Aaron Rodgers‘ ex-fiancée Shailene Woodley has admitted it’s painful to talk about the end of their relationship in a heartbreaking admission.
The pair dated for about two years, between 2020 and 2022, and got engaged – but they decided to call it quits a year after making their relationship public. “I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry,” The Divergent actress told Outside magazine.
“It was not right. But it was beautiful,” she added. Woodley did not mention Rodgers by name, but in the same year as their split, the 33-year-old referenced a traumatic experience that left her in a six-month depression.
“I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy. I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment,” she added. Woodley went on to say that she chose to remain in a “toxic situation” because she was empathizing with “someone else,” but it was that empathy that kept her in a “loop of feeling everything for everyone.”

Woodley credited her best friend and stylist, Kris Zero, for getting her through the darkness in 2022. “Sometimes I was so angry at her,” Woodley admitted. “But then we’d go surf, and for ten minutes that day I thought life could be OK again. Then the depression would come back and she’d go, ‘We’re volunteering at the horse ranch!’ And we’d find a random ——- horse ranch, and we’d clean up horse —-.
“We’d clean hooves and brush the horses, and for 20 minutes that day I thought life could be OK again. And then the depression came back and she’d wake me up the next morning and go, ‘Let’s go on a hike and bring trash bags and clean up trash!’”
Two years later, Woodley and Rodgers’ lives changed drastically. Woodley has four expected upcoming gigs, while Rodgers traded the Green Bay Packers for the New York Jets in the Big Apple.

However, life at the Jets hasn’t been easy for Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury four snaps into his debut last year. He recovered, but he’s been unable to take the Jets to a winning season, with the franchise 3-9 in 2024.
Rumors suggest that following the conclusion of the current campaign, Rodgers’s tenure in New Jersey could be over. Neither has any major, open developments in their dating lives.
Woodley isn’t confirmed to be dating anyone, and Rodgers, despite being linked with Mallory Edens, the daughter of Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wes Edens, has not officially been confirmed.
