Aaron Rodgers has told his New York Jets teammates that he believes the team is on the right path despite losing four games in a row while insinuating that the franchise must push past the issues that have haunted them for decades.
The Jets have a 2-5 record after starting the season at 2-1, losing four straight with Rodgers making uncharacteristic mistakes at quarterback while the team fired its head coach Robert Saleh two weeks ago.
The team came into the season seen as the favorites to win the AFC East above the Buffalo Bills while among the top contenders in the AFC with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. This kind of expectation has not been new amongst Jets teams in the last few years – being seen as a strong team on paper before seeing their seasons falling apart.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the game, Rodgers seemed to insinuate that he feels his Jets team is close to becoming the one that many had hoped for them to be this season – but that they are holding themselves back.
He said: “It’s like the story of cutting down a tree, and it’s the final blow that actually fells the tree but you might not see the first thousand hacks at it. Sometimes it just takes that one thing to happen, it could be a speech before a game, after a game, something during the week that just clicks, and the energy of that click can be contagious.
“What you do is you try and set up a lot of different things that are part of the structure and the foundation of a winning culture, but until each of those things clicks in, you’re fighting against some of the ghosts of years past, and it’s in every organization, it’s in every season.”

It’s not the first time that Rodgers has touched on guys, including himself, needing to show some leadership to turn their season around while also admitting that he must play better.
But no matter how close Rodgers feels the Jets might be from the team being a strong one, they won’t be able to compete should they continue to lose games – finding themselves in a must-win matchup with the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The Jets will be significantly boosted by Haason Reddick finally joining the team, agreeing to end his holdout after being traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the team this past offseason.
