Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick didn’t hold back his thoughts on the heavy coverage of Taylor Swift during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. New Orleans Saints game. Swift’s attendance at NFL games has become a hot topic this season due to her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, but Belichick appeared less than thrilled with the amount of airtime she received.
Throughout the first half of the matchup, ESPN’s cameras frequently panned to Swift, especially as Kelce delivered a standout performance, finishing with nine receptions for 70 yards. During his appearance on ESPN’s “Manningcast” with Eli and Peyton Manning, Belichick took a playful jab, commenting, “Ugh, big first half for Kelce,” and then adding with a pause, “Too big… too big.” The Manning brothers erupted in laughter, clearly enjoying Belichick’s dry humor as he expressed his frustration with the constant focus on Swift.
Interestingly, Belichick’s sentiments struck a chord with many fans, who echoed his feelings about the ongoing coverage of the pop star during NFL games. One fan tweeted, “Oh Bill, we are all the same. That’s why I hardly watched last night,” while another remarked, “Peyton and Eli giggling in the background makes this 10x funnier.” Others expressed their annoyance, with one saying, “I’ve stopped watching the Chiefs because of this absurd sideshow,” and another jokingly welcoming Belichick to the club of frustrated viewers.
Despite his frustrations during the game, it’s worth noting that Belichick has shown admiration for Swift in the past, even sporting a sweatshirt with her name and attending one of her concerts in Amsterdam this summer. His issue seems less personal and more about the NFL’s tendency to prioritize off-field stories over the game itself.
Belichick, known for his no-nonsense approach, clearly prefers the focus to remain on the athletes and the action on the field rather than outside distractions. However, fans might want to prepare for more Swift sightings, as the Chiefs are set to return to “Monday Night Football” on November 4, and with Swift and Kelce’s relationship continuing to flourish, it’s likely she’ll be in the stands again.
With three additional prime-time games scheduled for December, the Swift-Kelce narrative shows no signs of fading. As Swift’s star power continues to intersect with the NFL, it appears that both Belichick and fans will have to navigate the ongoing discussion surrounding her presence at Chiefs games this season.
