As an animal rescuer, you can never predict where your next life-saving mission will take you. And, you definitely can’t be prepared for everything that awaits.
When a random passerby was walking next to an abandoned laundromat in Indiana, they never expected to find an animal inside. However, loud, desperate cries drew the person in, leading them to stumble upon the most shocking surprise in a pit on the floor…
Two Pairs Of Helpless Eyes Peeking From The Inside
The passerby was startled by two heartbroken pairs of eyes peeking at them from inside the pit. When they took a closer look, they identified two extremely malnourished Pitties who had been waiting there for who knows how long.
Shocked by what they found, the passerby immediately called for help.
Within minutes, animal control officer, Mari, and two volunteers, Kelly and Jay, from Silverstray Social, Gary, Indiana, arrived at the scene.
Despite having been part of many successful rescue missions and witnessing plenty of heartbreaking scenes, this particular one left them in shock. Given the pups’ appearance, it was clear they both had been neglected for a very long time.
They could barely stand on their feet due to starvation and had wounds all over their bodies.
“Two innocent dogs suffered trapped in a pit – abandoned, starving, and clinging to life!
Silverstray and Gary Animal Control pulled them from the depths of despair,” the SS team wrote on Facebook.
Happy to finally see the light of day, the pups wagged their tails joyfully, allowing the rescuers to care for them.
They had a nice meal after what seemed like an eternity. With no name tags, microchips, or anything that could help the rescuers identify their families, the pups began a brand-new journey.
Luckily, they didn’t need to wait long for a fresh start.
The Sweetest Update
Cheer and Suds, as they were later named, underwent much-needed vet treatment. Their malnourishment required around-the-clock care and adequate medication, along with some TLC from the staff.
However, as soon as they completed their treatment, the sweetest update awaited them. Instead of returning to animal control, these two adorable Pittie girls were placed in foster homes.
This is a huge step forward, as the dogs will finally experience the meaning of a loving home – probably for the first time in their lives.
“After who knows how long they were trapped in that hole, starving and clinging to life, they will finally know comfort—and sleep on soft, warm beds,” Silverstray Social wrote in an update post.
Thanks to the kind-hearted team of rescuers and the most amazing community, Cheer and Suds are on their way to a full recovery.
They will get to experience all the things they missed in the past, including proper care, love and socialization with other humans and dogs.
When the time is right, both dogs will be on their way to forever homes – hopefully to the people who will never leave them alone again!
