Jim Harbaugh has hailed Justin Herbert as one of the best quarterbacks of all time.
In January 2024, Harbaugh joined the Los Angeles Chargers as their head coach after nine successful seasons with the Michigan Wolverines. Throughout the latest season, the former Pro Bowl quarterback led the Chargers to an 11-6 record and into the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
Franchise quarterback Herbert had an impressive season in the pocket, with 3,870 passing yards and 23 touchdowns to just three interceptions across 17 games. Harbaugh’s influence was seen in the 26-year-old’s performance, as he improved his TD record and lowered the number of times the defense picked him off.
Despite a Wildcard loss to the Houston Texans in the 2024 playoffs, Harbaugh is adamant he has the future of his franchise in Herbert, ranking him as one of the best of all time. During an appearance on Pro Football Talk Live, the 61-year-old praised his star pocket passer as he said: “It’s like being around greatness every single day.
“I would follow him to hell and back. I’ve never been around a competitor quite like him. Some great ones, but, you know, no doubt in my mind that Justin Herbert is not only one of the great quarterbacks in the NFL today but truly one of the great quarterbacks of all time.”
This is extremely high praise for Herbert given that he is yet to make a Super Bowl – but he has been a consistent performer since he was drafted in 2020. Across five seasons, Herbert has recorded at least 3,000 yards each time, with a record high of 5,014 in 2021.

The Chargers’ latest season was their most successful since Herbert was drafted, and Harbaugh will be planning to take more steps forward in the 2025 season. In an interview with Forbes, the head coach spoke about his aspirations for the upcoming campaign and stated he just wants his team to be at their very best each week.
Harbaugh said: “Just to win the day. I’m not really into saying have a nice day. That’s seems to put a little chance to it. Let’s just make it a great day — weekly, monthly, yearly.
“This is our opportunity. Let’s make sure that we give it our very best and we’ll feel good about what we accomplished.”
