Texas and Ohio State are set to play against each other for the first time in 16 years with Quinn Ewers returning to his former school for the Cotton Bowl – serving as the semi-finals for the college football playoffs – with weather potentially hazardous.
The game will be played on neutral field on Friday night, set to be held in Arlington, Texas inside the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, which is a dome stadium. But while the conditions will have no impact on the game played under a roof, severe weather warnings have been put in place in the North Texas area, which may disrupt fans traveling to the game.
Surprisingly, Texas is expected to see freezing temperatures and potential snow ahead of the game and throughout the coming days.

The Cotton Bowl has released a statement on the ongoing situation, in which they said: “We are routinely monitoring weather reports and we are in close contact with AT&T Stadium and local officials. We always have plans for inclement weather. Should conditions warrant it, we will communicate to everyone attending and connected with this year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.”
Ryan Day’s Ohio State comes into the game as the big favorites, with true freshman sensation Jeremiah Smith continuing to dominate after his incredible performance in the Rose Bowl to defeat the number-one ranked Oregon Ducks. Meanwhile, Ewers will look to exact revenge on the school of which he spent his freshman season, being redshirted after failing to secure any meaningful playing time behind CJ Stroud.

Ahead of the game, Ewers said: “[I] learned a lot when I was there under Coach Day and CJ Stroud. Super thankful for that time that I got to spend there. I learned a whole lot. So I don’t regret any decision I’ve made on going or anything like that, but the main reason I went was I felt like I had a great relationship with the coaching staff, and they were winning a lot of games I wanted to go be part of something like that.
“The reason I came back to Texas was to be closer to the resources that I have and the relationships that I’ve built over time just being from Texas.”
Whoever comes out victorious will go on to face the winner of Penn State vs Notre Dame in the CFP Final on January 20.
