Patrick Mahomes has missed out on the Pro Bowl roster with the three-time Super Bowl champion not being named to the initial squad for the first time in his career.
This comes after a dominant season for the Kansas City Chiefs, winning 15 of their 16 games so far this season and already securing the number one seed while having a first-round bye. However, Mahomes’ individual numbers have remained subpar this year with 26 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
Ahead of Mahomes, the AFC quarterbacks that have been selected are Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen – all three the top favorites to win this year’s regular season MVP.
While Mahomes has missed out on the Pro Bowl roster, he has been named as an alternate. Many players opt not to play in the game each season, and so multiple alternates are named, ready to step in.
Although Mahomes has not been named to the squad, five other Kansas City Chiefs players have including Travis Kelce, being the back-up tight end behind Brock Bowers. Offensive lineman Joe Thuney, Trey Smith, and Creed Humphrey have also been named to the roster, as well as Chris Jones.
Elsewhere, the Baltimore Ravens lead the NFL once again as having the most players to make the Pro Bowl (nine), while the Detroit Lions have seven players named.
