Quinn Ewers was seen entering the Texas Memorial Stadium in a swanky suit prior to the Longhorns playoff opener with Clemson, with eagle-eyed fans noticing that he’d been wearing an intriguing tie clip.
While wearing a Navy pinstriped suit, Ewers had a red tie on with a gold tie clip, with the words ‘TRUMP’ being clearly visible on the clip. The junior quarterback appeared to be making a political gesture in what could be his final year in college football.
This is not been the first that that Ewers has shown his support for the President-elect and Republican leader, after posting an image of Trump with his fists in the air after the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania back in July. Ewers had also posted an image of Trump with his future Vice President JD Vance, with the caption: “Legendary.”

The quarterback clearly has no issues with showing of his political allegiances in what is set to be a huge few weeks for his football career, with the 21-year-old set to make the decision on his future while having three options: Declare for the NFL Draft, return to Texas or transfer school’s.
After a rollercoaster season with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions while being criticized for his play at times, being ahead of Arch Manning in the depth chart and seeing pressure on him to perform to keep his place. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has made it clear that Ewers is his starting quarterback when asked on several occasions if he could be benched, although that was under the assumption that this would be his final year before declaring for the draft.
The Longhorns are unlikely to bench Manning for a third season, meaning if Ewers decides to return for his senior year, he may be forced to hit the transfer portal, with Oregon and USC reportedly having interest in acquiring him.
However, if he does declare for the draft, Ewers could still be taken in the first round in what is considered to be one of the weaker classes for quarterback’s in recent years. While Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward as seen as sure-fire first-rounders, there are multiple quarterback’s – including Ewers – that could fall in the first round due to the lack of available talent at the position.
Ewers will need to impress in the college football playoffs if he is to be a first-round pick, with him more likely to be a day two selection at this point.
