Travis Hunter may have secured the Heisman Trophy after scoring three touchdowns against Oklahoma State on Friday, and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders summed up the mood after the game.
Coach Prime posted on X after the Buffaloes shut out the Cowboys 52-0 to keep their chances of reaching the Big 12 Championship Game alive. “LORD I THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!” Sanders wrote on his official X account.
Colorado is now 9-3, a vast improvement from last season, but after a shock 37-21 defeat to Kansas in Week 13, a ticket to the Big 12 Championship Game relies on results elsewhere. However, Hunter has done all he can this season and moved well clear of Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in the Heisman voting after Friday’s performance.

Against Oklahoma State, Hunter had 10 catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns, but also had one interception due to the 21-year-old still playing a multi-position role. Hunter is already one of the top wide receivers heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, but has also been a star cornerback for the Buffaloes.
In total, Hunter lined up for 114 snaps on Friday, and also saw his season total surpass 1,000 yards. Hunter has 82 catches on the season for 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Hunter has 30 tackles, three interceptions, and one forced fumble.
It looks like the Heisman is all but secured, but Jeanty has ran him extremely close following a stunning season with Boise State. The Broncos are 11-1 this season, and Jeanty has scored 27 rushing touchdowns for the program while amassing 2,062 yards.
Jeanty made a statement right from Week 1 when facing Georgia Southern as the running back rushed for 267 yards and six touchdowns, breaking a 46-year-old single-game record for Boise State. Jeanty is the top running back prospect entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Broncos will see their season continue, while Hunter and Colorado will await to see if results fall kindly on Saturday. The Buffaloes may have played their final home game this season at Folsom Field, and Sanders admitted that it’s emotional saying goodbye to many talented seniors, including his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo.
“It’s kind of emotional,” Coach Sanders said. “My last time at home with several of my kids and my seniors, man, it’s tough. It’s tough on a coach who loves his kids.”
When asked specifically about his two sons, who play quarterback and safety respectively, Sanders added: “Tough man. I can’t even explain the emotions…This is a tough game, but we’re gonna overcome adversity.”
