Gardner Minshew suffered a broken collarbone in the Las Vegas Raiders‘ loss to the Denver Broncos and will be out for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old quarterback signed a two-year deal with the Raiders this offseason and won the starting job above Aidan O’Connell, who the Raiders will now turn to for the rest of the year with their future looking uncertain at the position.
Minshew signed a two-year, $25 million deal with Las Vegas with them seemingly hoping he’d be the starter through his contract, but he has greatly underwhelmed this year with just eight touchdowns to nine interceptions on the year – likely to be released from his deal.

Minshew had already been benched earlier this season with O’Connell taking over, before an injury to the latter meant that the former had taken over once again.
For now, O’Connell will have six games to prove to the team that he should be the starter moving forward, with Las Vegas likely to be planning to address the position in the upcoming draft at present.
Shedeur Sanders is one of several quarterback prospects likely to be taken in the first round of the draft, with the Colorado quarterback putting in another impressive season in college football this year.
Minshew looked to be in significant pain
And O’Connell is not the only Raider likely auditioning to keep his job, as pressure is mounting on current head coach Antonio Pierce, with the team falling to a 2-9 record in his first year in charge.
Many had criticized the Raiders this past offseason for their handling of the quarterback position, choosing not to make a move up the board in the NFL Draft, missing out on the likes of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and Bo Nix – all having impressed in their rookie year.
However, Las Vegas did look to have nailed their draft pick, with former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers putting in a dominant first season, leading all players at his position in yards with 744 and three touchdowns.
O’Connell’s first game as the full-time starter will come against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
