NBC’s Mike Tirico called the Philadelphia Eagles win on Sunday Night Football with his leg elevated after brutally tearing his Achilles earlier in the week.

Tirico has not missed an assignment since being on the call in the NFL in primetime slots since 2006 and had no intention of doing so this season despite his injury, having taking over from Al Michaels for NBC in the 2022 season.

The camera had panned to Tirico, alongside Cris Collinsworth in the booth, who had his left leg elevated while wearing a boot. He revealed that he tore his Achilles tendon on Tuesday, but had no problem making the trip to Los Angeles to see the Rams‘ loss to the Eagles. Tirico will undergo surgery, but will continue to call each game in the primetime Sunday slot.

Tirico said: “Once you tear your Achilles it is pain right away and then it is awkward getting around for awhile. Our group was amazing trying to set up the booth so it was as comfortable as possible.”

The two had not spoken about his injury until the third quarter, when Collinsworth asked Tirico to show his leg to the camera – giving the fans a rare glimpse of the commentary booth inside an NFL arena.

The 57-year-old had used a knee scooter in and around the stadium and was seen leaving the booth as he was going to the elevator, being helped up by his colleagues.

Although regularly on the call on Sunday Night Football, Tirico will have a short week this time around, having to travel to a freezing Lambeau Field to call the Green Bay Packers’ game with the Miami Dolphins on Thanksgiving Thursday.

Sunday Night Football saw the Eagles put in a dominant performance over the Rams, with Saquon Barkley rushing for an incredible 255 yards with two touchdowns, averaging 9.8 yards per carry while elevating himself into the MVP conversation.

The Eagles’ win sees them take a comfortably lead in the NFC East, after the Washington Commanders suffered a shock defeat to a depleted Dallas Cowboys team, playing without Dak Prescott.
