Fans were treated to their first snow game of the 2024 NFL season on Thursday night, but Amazon Prime was already prepared for the blizzard in Cleveland, Ohio.

The game between the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers became impacted by a huge snow storm in Ohio, but within just a few snaps Amazon ensured that fans could still see the markings on the field. The field looked like it had been shoveled across the lines to determine yardage, but the visual effect was in fact done via visual effects.

However, the quality of Amazon’s cameras also worked against them, as the snowfall kept altering the focus of the broadcast. Snow games are a classic staple of the NFL, but fans couldn’t agree whether Amazon’s technology was an improvement or taking away from traditions when debating on social media.

“Don’t like the virtual yard lines Amazon is doing in the snow. Just show the game with the snow on the field,” one fan wrote on X. “The virtual lines suck on Amazon Prime. I’d rather see the snow,” another added.

“Drop the digital yard markers, Amazon. Part of the joy of a snow game is not seeing,” one fan claimed. However, other supporters were left extremely impressed with Amazon’s innovative approach and broadcasting quality under such harsh conditions.

“The snow in Amazon Prime’s 4k is pretty sweet,” one fan said. “Amazon’s picture is so crisp, this is one of the best looking snow games I’ve ever seen,” another claimed.

“Amazon might have the greatest video cameras in life. This snow game looks unreal,” one fan wrote. “Amazon cameras are too good and over focusing on the snow. What a time to be alive,” a supporter added.

The nostalgia of the snow game appeared to inspire the events of ‘Thursday Night Football’ as running back Nick Chubb and quarterback Jameis Winston enjoyed memorable moments. Chubb was carted off against the Steelers nearly 14 months ago with a brutal left knee injury, and rushed for the opening touchdown in his first game against Pittsburgh since.

Winston also rushed into the end zone for the Browns, recording his first score since 2021 when he was at the New Orleans Saints. Winston took over from Deshaun Watson earlier this season after a season-ending injury, and delivered an iconic pregame interview as he remained grateful for the opportunity.

“The horse is preparing for battle, but victory comes from the Lord. So I’m dependent on the Lord,” Winston said, before being asked for his message to the team. “Day by day, one play at a time, that’s the message,” he replied.
