Shedeur Sanders has sent a confident message to star rookie quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels.
Williams and Daniels were selected No. 1 and No. 2 overall respectively in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears and the Washington Commanders in hopes of turning each of the franchise’s fortunes around. With Williams under center in Chicago, the Bears have stumbled as of late after amassing a 4-2 start.
Daniels, meanwhile, has led the Commanders to a 7-4 record so far this season, including a thrilling winner against Williams and the Bears. Despite how Williams and Daniels have fared this season, Sanders believes he is a better signal caller than the top-two picks in the last year’s draft.

Speaking to ESPN, Colorado’s star quarterback had a message aimed at Williams and Daniels, especially as he is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft. “I feel like I was the best quarterback in the last draft, too,” Sanders admitted.
“Ever since I was draft eligible, I knew I’m the best quarterback. It’s not up for me to prove myself to talking about why. … The main thing now is you either see that or you don’t.”
So far this season, Sanders has proven himself to be one of the more impressive quarterbacks in college football. In his second season playing under his father Deion, the star signal caller has thrown 27 touchdowns to only seven interceptions, consistently targeting star wideout Travis Hunter.
Because of how successful the Buffaloes have been this season, sitting at 8-2 with a 6-1 record in conference play, both Sanders and Hunter are in the running to win the Heisman Trophy this season. Colorado’s success took many pundits by surprise, with Sanders making sure to let those detractors know he, Hunter and the rest of the team are formidable.

“We came on a bigger stage and where, I guess, people respect football a little bit more and are doing the same thing,” he continued. “So now it’s like, ‘Oh, these guys were actually players,’ but we’ve been doing everything since day one.”
With the race still undecided but close, Sanders explained he would much rather have his teammate win, knowing what Hunter is doing has never been done before. Along with being a star wide receiver, Hunter is also a cornerback for the Buffaloes, displaying his two-way dominance seemingly every week.
“It’s never been done,” Hunter said regarding playing two different positions in the NFL, per ESPN. “I understand that it will be a high risk, [teams] don’t want their top pick to go down too early and I know they’re going to want me to be in a couple packages. But I believe I can do it. Nobody has stopped me from doing it thus far.
“I like when people tell me I can’t do it.” And ultimately, while Sanders is confident in his abilities especially against Williams and Daniels, he understands that history could be in the making for his teammate.
“If it’s between me and him, I would want him to get it,” Shedeur Sanders said. “He does a lot of amazing things and things that haven’t been done before. I’m not a selfish guy. I know what he’s capable of, so I would rather him win.”
