Ex-boxing world champion Tony Bellew has unleashed a scathing critique of Jake Paul for wearing “full on punchers gloves” during his win against Mike Tyson. The former YouTube personality, who has transitioned into boxing, emerged victorious over the iconic fighter in Texas on Friday night.
Despite hinting at a knockout ambition, Paul managed only to outscore Tyson, 58. The bout was notably lopsided, with Tyson landing a mere 18 punches compared to Paul’s 78.
However, ex-WBC cruiserweight champ Bellew contends that Paul’s choice of gloves provided him an unfair edge. On Twitter, he remarked: “The gloves Mike has on are looking heavily padded while Jake has on grants which are full on punchers gloves. There is a huge difference in them gloves and I’m only watching from a bed.”
- ‘I was on Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard – I am sure the fight was fixed’
- ‘I was at Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson – it was everything we feared and worse’
Bellew also lambasted the very occurrence of the match, saying: “We are all to blame for this man! We are all talking and watching! We have to stop this fool [Paul]! Don’t tune into him until he fights someone who is fit healthy and not a grandfather! Any proper boxing people helping Paul need to look at themselves! This is just sad.”
While Bellew expressed outrage at Paul, he did offer some commendation, noting that Paul claimed to have held back during the fight to avoid injuring Tyson.
“I don’t like this stupid idiot kid but I will say this… he stopped beating on Mike there and showed him some respect and dignity by letting him survive. He didn’t go for the KO there, he stepped off him and let him be.”

After the much-hyped bout, suspensions have been dished out to both Paul and ‘Iron’ Mike. Falling under the supervision of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation since the fight was recognized as pro-level, mandatory chill time has been slapped on the fighters. Following the rulebook, each pugilist must take a three-day breather per round duked out, adding up to 24 days off the ring for the pair.
Yet, hardly skipping a beat, both combatants are busy plotting their next moves. Paul has his gaze set on a big-time tangle with Canelo Álvarez, while Tyson is baying for a match with Paul’s brother, Logan.
