LIV Golf star Tyrrell Hatton narrowly missed out on his second DP World Tour title in two starts, finishing runner-up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Despite winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last month, Hatton couldn’t quite clinch back-to-back victories at Yas Links, falling short of eventual champion Paul Waring.
After setting a course record with an 11-under-par 61 in round two, Waring maintained his lead throughout the weekend, but was nearly overtaken by his fellow Englishman. Starting the day five shots behind the overnight leader, Hatton found his stride in Sunday’s final round, shooting his second eight-under 64 of the week.
Playing ahead of Waring, Hatton made consecutive birdies at the 17th and 18th holes to become the clubhouse leader at 22-under-par. However, Waring, chasing only his second DP World Tour victory, matched Hatton’s late surge.

Like Hatton, Waring also birdied his final two holes, including a long putt at the par-three 17th, to leapfrog Hatton into first place and claim the $1.6million prize. Despite the near miss, Hatton’s performance was yet another impressive display as his season comes to a close.
Hatton competed at the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour before joining LIV Golf alongside Jon Rahm. His form skyrocketed after the move, evidenced by his victory at LIV Houston in 2024 and a fantastic fourth-place finish in the season-long standings.
Yet, Hatton’s sights have recently shifted back to the DP World Tour to ensure he meets the four-event requirement that retains his membership and solidifies his eligibility for the upcoming Ryder Cup. He rounded off this quota with an appearance at the Dunhill Links in October, accompanying earlier participations in Dubai, the British Masters, and the Spanish Open.
Despite fulfilling the necessary minimum events, Hatton’s stellar play qualified him for the Tour’s two playoff events, kicking off with Abu Dhabi last week. At the DP World Tour, where he’s made a triumphant return, Hatton seems to be relishing his time.
Reflecting on his performance, he expressed contentment, “It’s been great,” when discussing his time at the Abu Dhabi tournament last week. “Yeah, it’s great to be back out here, and looking forward to the rest of the week.”
With enthusiasm evident, Hatton is gearing up for the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, starting Thursday at the Earth Course.
