Travis and Jason Kelce recently discussed an incident that occurred during a Penn State football game, which put Jason at the center of controversy. On Saturday, outside Beaver Stadium, Jason Kelce found himself in an altercation where he reacted to a fan who had used an anti-gay slur directed at his brother, Travis. In response, Jason slammed the phone of the individual and, regrettably, used the same offensive language back at the fan.

The former offensive lineman later issued a public apology during ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, acknowledging that he “fell short” by choosing to “greet hate with hate.”

The Kelce brothers addressed the incident in greater detail to open their latest “New Heights” podcast episode, which aired Wednesday morning. During the discussion, Jason expressed regret over his actions, admitting that he wished he hadn’t reacted to the provocation, as it only ended up creating a story that “perpetuates more hate.” He also apologized once again for using offensive language.

“The thing that I regret the most is saying that word, to be honest with you,” Jason explained. “The word he used is just f—–g ridiculous, and it takes it to another level. It’s just off the wall and f—–g over the line. It’s dehumanizing, and it got under my skin.”

Jason elaborated on the emotional reaction he had at the moment, acknowledging that his response was inappropriate. “It elicited a reaction, and in the heat of the moment, I thought in my head, ‘Hey, what can I say back to him? I’m going to throw this s— right back in his face because f— him.’ I know now I shouldn’t have done that because there’s now a video out there of me saying that word, him saying that word, and it’s not good for anybody.”

Travis Kelce, for his part, expressed his concern for his brother and felt bad that Jason was burdened by the situation. He lamented the fact that the video of the incident was continuing to make the rounds online and was receiving more attention than the fan’s offensive behavior that had provoked the encounter in the first place.

“The real situation is that you had some f—–g clown come up to you and talk about your family,” Travis said. “You reacted in a way that was defending your family, and you might have used some words that you regret using.”

Travis emphasized the importance of learning from the incident and taking accountability for one’s actions. He commended Jason for how he handled the situation afterward, believing that his brother had properly conveyed his remorse on Monday night.

“I think you owning it and you speaking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world,” Travis said. “You don’t choose hate. That’s just not who you are. I love you, brother. I think you said that perfectly.”

The Kelce brothers acknowledged that the incident was a learning experience and stressed the importance of not letting anger and hate dictate one’s actions. While Jason’s reaction came from a place of wanting to protect his family, both brothers agreed that responding with the same harmful language was not the right way to handle the situation.

By discussing the incident openly and apologizing publicly, Jason aimed to make amends and set an example for others on how to confront mistakes with accountability and a willingness to do better.

As prominent public figures, the Kelce brothers understand that their actions are often scrutinized, and they took this opportunity to highlight the need for empathy and understanding, even in challenging moments. Their candid conversation on the podcast showed their commitment to learning from their mistakes and moving forward in a positive direction.
