FOX NFL Sunday host Terry Bradshaw is outspoken about his Republican past – but the Pittsburgh Steelers icon switched political allegiances following Donald Trump’s presidency.
During his illustrious playing career, Bradshaw played 14 seasons for Pittsburgh, winning four Super Bowl titles and an MVP award. He is a respected voice when it comes to the NFL, but he has also used his platform to educate others.
Back in 2020, Bradshaw announced he was changing political parties. The Hall of Famer had been a longtime registered Republican voter but, after enduring Trump’s reign, he decided to switch to become a registered independent voter.

“I’ve been a Republican, but now I’m a registered independent,” Bradshaw told bjtonline. “I don’t want to alienate anyone, and the minute you say, ‘I’m a Democrat’ or ‘I’m Republican,’ you’re kicking off the other side. I want the best person [in the White House], and I’ll pick the one who’s most like the way I feel.”
Bradshaw had previously criticized Trump for speaking out against NFL players kneeling for the national anthem. The act was done in protest to systematic inequality and police brutality, led by Colin Kaepernick who was then forced out of the league.
Back in 2017, Bradshaw appeared on ‘FOX NFL Sunday’ and, at the opening of the pregame show, he outlined that while he didn’t condone the anthem protests, he insisted and recognized that players have the freedom to exercise their rights.

“This is America. If our country stands for anything, folks, it’s freedom. People died for that freedom,” Bradshaw said. “I’m not sure if our President understands those rights. That every American has the right to speak out also to protest. Believe me, these athletes do love our this great country of ours.
“Personally, I think our President should concentrate on North Korea and healthcare rather than ripping into athletes and the NFL.”
Recently, Bradshaw sparked concerns over his health and on-screen future as he made several mistakes during his NFL analysis. In Week 7, Bradshaw was breaking down a matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals, but Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans highlights were playing and it took him a few moments to realize what was happening.
“Whoops, wrong one,” Bradshaw said. The Hall of Famer has also dealt with numerous health issues, including a cancer diagnosis, but he has not plans to step away anytime soon.
