Jason Kelce addressed his viral phone smash and apologized for the altercation with a fan as he led off ‘Monday Night Countdown’ on ESPN.
On Saturday, Kelce was on campus at Penn State when a fan began to insult his brother Travis and his relationship with Taylor Swift. After labelling the Kansas City Chiefs star a homophobic slur, Kelce clashed with the fans and smashed a phone on the floor.
At Arrowhead Stadium ahead of the ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup between the Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kelce kicked off the show by expressing regret over his actions. He said: “I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it.

“And in a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing. I really don’t. I don’t think it leads to discourse, and [don’t think] it’s the right way to go about things. In that moment, I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have. So I think bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rule. It’s what I’ve always been taught.
“I try to treat people with common decency and respect, even though I fell short this week. I’m going to do that moving forward and continue to do that.”
On Saturday ahead of an appearance on ‘College GameDay’, Kelce was jeered by a collegiate fan who fired a number of homophobic slurs toward the Philadelphia Eagles legend. The fan seemed to yell: “Kelce! How does it feel that your brother’s a f—— dating Taylor Swift?”
Kelce furiously reacted, turning around in a large crowd before appearing to grab a phone out of someone’s hand and throwing it onto the concrete floor. According to the Daily Mail, Kelce – holding an open beer in his other hand – yelled back at the person: “Who’s the f—– now?”

Kelce then picked up the phone, turned back around and continued walking along the street as hundreds of fans followed him and shouted his name, all whilst keeping the cell in his possession. On his ‘New Heights’ podcast, Kelce originally spoke of his excitement to visit Beaver Stadium for the first time.
“I’m officially going to Happy Valley, up to Penn State this week to try and kick,” Kelce told brother Travis. “I’ve never been. I’ve never been to Penn State, Happy Valley. I’ve gone fly fishing in the area, but I’ve never been to State College, so I’m excited about this. I’m going to have to toe it.
“You can’t do a soccer-style kick with [Timberlands] on. You’re not getting the proper ankle flexion, so I’m going to have to go Lou Groza. I’m going to have to toe it … The chance this thing goes straight is minimal.”
