Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have been flexed out of the Sunday Night Football slot for Week 11 amid their difficult start to the 2024 NFL season.

After their heavily-anticipated 2023 season was derailed after just four snaps following Rodgers’ Achilles injury, the Jets became must-watch television as the four-time MVP returned to the fore. The onus of the nation, along with fans around the world, was firmly on the green half of New York City as the AFC East franchise featured in a league-leading six prime time games alongside the clash with the Minnesota Vikings in London.

However, the Jets have somewhat failed to deliver so far. At 3-6, they sit firmly outside the AFC playoff picture and have dropped dismal performances against the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.

While the Jets did build some momentum with a clutch 21-13 win over the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football, the NFL has decided enough is enough. The league has flexed the Jets’ clash with the Indianapolis Colts out of prime time in Week 11 in favor of the Los Angeles Chargers’ trip to face the Cincinnati Bengals.

Given both the 4-5 Bengals and 5-4 Chargers are hardly enjoying spectacular seasons, the decision may be down to fans around the league getting frustrated by the constant programming of Rodgers’ Jets. The Colts also struggled on Sunday Night Football after being flexed in for a trip to Minnesota, with Joe Flacco ambling through while Anthony Richardson watched on.

As a result, the rematch of Super Bowl III has been swapped out. The Bengals and Chargers are hardly setting the world alight in 2024, but they possess two of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert, who both entered the league in the same 2020 draft class.

Against the Texans, Rodgers completed 22 of 32 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns. The key takeaway for the Jets was Davante Adams, who enjoyed his finest performance since arriving via trade; he posted 91 receiving yards with a touchdown on seven receptions and 11 targets.

Yet, the NFL did not deem the Jets worthy of the prime time role. The Colts were dismal in the slot on Sunday, falling 21-13 to the Vikings as Flacco threw for just 179 yards and an interception against a relentless Minnesota front.

The Colts and Jets will now face each other in the early window of games on Sunday in Week 11. The 3-6 Jets take on the 5-4 Arizona Cardinals in their next game at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 10.
