Chicago Sky star Angel Reese has given the appointment of Tyler Marsh as her team’s new head coach her seal of approval as she engaged in a jovial exchange with fellow WNBA players.

The former college basketball sensation made a successful transition to the professional stage last season after being selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 draft. The power forward set a new all-time haul in the league in terms of rebounds in a season, while also being named as an All Star.

Reese formed a close relationship with coach Teresa Weatherspoon during her record-breaking rookie campaign. However, she was dismissed from her role just a year into her tenure after overseeing a 13-27 record – as the Sky failed to make the playoffs for a first time since 2018.

However, it appears that she is embracing a new chapter in Chicago as she appeared to welcome the decision to name Marsh as Weatherspoon’s successor on social media. In a post on Twitter/X, she said: “W,” inspiring a barbed response from Las Vegas Aces star Sydney Colson, who fired back saying: “Excuse me?! We’re grieving, have some respect!”

Reese then replied: “Sorry but your time is UP. It’s our turn! I’ll send you some tissue tho sister girl unless you want to come join this side too, as Alysha Clark chimed in, as she revealed her own anguish after Marsh’s decision to leave Sin City, saying: “Like give us a day. Dang.”

Announcing the arrival of Marsh, a Sky spokesperson said: “The Chicago Sky organization is proud to welcome our next head coach Tyler Marsh to Skytown. Coach Marsh is widely respected for the development of elite players and shares our goal of being a playoff and championship contender every year.”

This comes after Chicago star Reese admitted her anguish at the decision to fire Weatherspoon previously, as she released an emotional statement on Twitter/X, which read: “I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life.

“She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you. You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed.”

Reese added: “I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever.

“I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but I’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
