The boo birds were out in force at MetLife Stadium as the New York Jets turned in a sinister first half performance on Halloween night – that is, until wide receiver Garrett Wilson gave them something to cheer about.
During a 21-13 win over the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football,’ many of the costly mistakes that have hampered New York this season once again reared their ugly head in the first 30 minutes of the game.
On the Texans second offensive drive of the game, the Jets successfully forced a three-and-out – but a roughing the kicker penalty on a fourth-and-21 punt provided Houston with 15 yards and a fresh set of downs.

Despite the mental gaffe, the Jets promptly responded by sacking quarterback C.J. Stroud and forcing a fumble, which was recovered by defensive end Will McDonald IV. It wouldnt take long before New York would draw the ire of its fans, however.
During the first play of the second quarter, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers faked a handoff to running back Breece Hall and flipped the ball to Corley on a reverse end-around. Following a review, officials overturned the initial call of a touchdown, instead ruling it a fumble and wiping six points off the board.

A 14-play, 98-yard touchdown drive halfway through the second quarter would provide the Texans with a 7-0 lead entering halftime. As Jets players and coaches trotted off the field and into the locker room, disgruntled fans began chanting, Sell the team, in a direct shot at owner Woody Johnson.
The Jets would not go down without a fight, beginning the second half with an impressive 11-play, 70-yard drive that was capped off by a 21-yard touchdown grab by Wilson. The best was yet to come from the star wide receiver, as he managed to reel in what will likely stand as the catch of the year.
With just over 13 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Rodgers dropped back and surveyed the field before throwing a jump ball up for Wilson, who reached up with one hand to snag it out of the air while contorting his body.
Though the acrobatic catch was initially ruled an incompletion due to Wilsons inability to get both feet in bounds, a review showed that his shin made contact with the black turf of the endzone. “That shin clearly touches in bounds before the knee goes out of bounds, referee Terry McAulay said. That puts him in bounds with control. Touchdown.”
A missed 27-yard field goal by Texans kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn would prove to be a costly miscue that Houston would not be able to recover from. Wideout Davante Adams provided the nail in the coffin on the ensuing drive – a 37-yard touchdown catch off a perfect pass from Rodgers along the sideline.
